Description


James & James is seeking a hands-on Head of Performance Marketing to bring our paid media 

capabilities in-house and lead the next stage of our customer acquisition growth.

This person will initially be directly responsible for managing and optimizing Google Ads, 

Microsoft Advertising/Bing, Meta, and Pinterest. The role will focus on improving revenue 

performance, marketing efficiency, measurement, and campaign execution while building the 

systems and processes needed to scale an internal performance marketing team.

Over time, the Head of Performance Marketing will help recruit and lead additional paid media 

team members. 


The Head of Performance Marketing will work alongside the Vice President of Marketing as a 

senior marketing leader. The Vice President of Marketing will continue to own the overall 

marketing strategy, brand direction, promotional strategy, and DTC business performance, while 

this role will own performance marketing execution, optimization, infrastructure, and team 

development.


Primary Objective:

Drive profitable revenue growth by improving the performance, efficiency, measurement, and 

scalability of James & James’s paid media and customer acquisition programs.


What You'll Be Doing:

Paid Media Strategy and Execution

• Directly manage paid media campaigns across Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising/Bing, 

Meta, and Pinterest.

• Own campaign setup, audience strategy, bidding, budgeting, keyword strategy, creative 

testing, product advertising, and ongoing optimization.

• Develop channel plans that support company revenue targets, promotional campaigns, 

product launches, and customer acquisition goals.

• Monitor performance daily and adjust budgets based on revenue opportunity, customer 

acquisition cost, return on ad spend, contribution margin, and overall marketing 

efficiency.

• Build structured testing programs across creative, audiences, offers, landing pages, 

campaign types, and bidding strategies.

• Identify and test new advertising channels, campaign formats, and growth opportunities.

• Reduce the company’s reliance on outside paid media agencies by building strong 

internal capabilities.

Revenue Growth and Performance Management

• Translate company revenue objectives into channel-level budgets, forecasts, and 

performance targets.

• Partner with the Vice President of Marketing and Finance to plan advertising investment 

and forecast results.

• Provide clear recommendations on where the company should increase, decrease, or 

reallocate media spend.

• Establish reporting that clearly communicates performance, key learnings, risks, and 

recommended next steps.

• Evaluate performance using metrics such as revenue, customer acquisition cost, return on 

ad spend, marketing efficiency ratio, conversion rate, average order value, contribution 

margin, and customer lifetime value.

• Balance growth opportunities with profitability, production capacity, lead times, product 

availability, and broader company priorities.

Team Leadership

• Establish clear goals, workflows, reporting expectations, and performance standards for 

future direct reports.

• Create the future hiring plan for the performance marketing department.

• Recruit and manage additional paid media team members as advertising investment and 

business needs grow.

• Build repeatable processes and documentation that allow the team to scale efficiently.

Merchant Feeds and Advertising Infrastructure

• Own the maintenance and optimization of merchant and product feeds across Google, 

Microsoft/Bing, Meta, Pinterest, and other relevant platforms.

• Monitor and resolve feed errors, product disapprovals, missing attributes, pricing issues, 

availability discrepancies, and catalog problems.

• Partner with e-commerce, development, merchandising, and data teams to improve 

product information used in advertising.

• Optimize product titles, descriptions, categories, imagery, and supplemental feed 

information to improve visibility and campaign performance.

• Maintain strong conversion tracking across advertising, website, CRM, and commerce 

platforms.

• Help improve pixels, Conversion API integrations, enhanced conversions, offline 

tracking, attribution, and reporting accuracy.

Marketing Technology and Data

• Evaluate advertising, attribution, automation, reporting, feed management, audience, and 

creative-testing technologies.

• Recommend tools based on expected revenue impact, efficiency gains, implementation 

requirements, and cost.

• Partner with the Vice President of Marketing and technical stakeholders on major 

technology decisions.

• Identify responsible opportunities to use artificial intelligence and automation to improve 

campaign execution, reporting, and creative workflows.

• Work closely with the company’s database and analytics partners to improve how 

customer, campaign, product, and order data is organized and used.

• Help define audience structures, customer attributes, naming conventions, and reporting 

requirements that support better decision-making.

• Identify data gaps and coordinate with internal and external partners to resolve them.


What You'll Need:

Significant experience in performance marketing, paid media, customer acquisition, or 

digital advertising.

• Advanced hands-on experience with Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising/Bing, Meta, and 

paid social or search platforms.

• Demonstrated success managing substantial advertising budgets and connecting media 

investment to revenue and profitability.

• Strong understanding of customer acquisition cost, return on ad spend, marketing 

efficiency, contribution margin, conversion rate, and customer lifetime value.

• Experience building, mentoring, or managing high-performing marketing teams.

• Experience with product feeds, merchant centers, Shopping campaigns, and dynamic 

product advertising.

• Strong knowledge of conversion tracking, attribution, analytics, customer audiences, and 

first-party data.

• Ability to evaluate and implement marketing technology, automation, and AI-enabled 

workflows.

• Strong analytical, communication, leadership, forecasting, and process-development 

skills.

• Experience in e-commerce, retail, furniture, home furnishings, luxury goods, or another 

considered-purchase category is preferred.
