Description

MORE THAN A JOB. A CARRER THAT CHANGES LIVES.

160 Driving Academy is the largest CDL training school in the country—14 years strong, 90+ locations across 32 states, and roughly 20,000 students earning their commercial driver's license with us every year. We graduate at an 80+% first-time pass rate because we take the work personally.

Behind every one of those graduates is a working adult who chose to bet on themselves—a parent looking for stable income, a veteran starting a second career, or a worker pivoting out of an industry that was no longer hiring. They picked up the phone, called us, and someone on the other end treated their question like it mattered.

The yard is where all of it becomes real. It's where students climb into a truck for the first time, where instructors teach the trade, and where careers actually get built. Every yard has to be safe, clean, staffed, and run to one standard—and somebody has to own that across a whole region. The Regional Yard Manager is that leader. This is a role for someone who leads from the field: a coach, an operator, and a standard-setter who is happiest walking a yard, not watching one from a desk.

ABOUT THE REGIONAL YARD MANAGER ROLE

As Regional Yard Manager, you oversee the daily operations of multiple CDL training yards, ensuring each location provides a safe, professional, and effective training environment. You provide leadership to yard teams, support instructor performance, maintain operational standards, ensure compliance with FMCSA requirements, and drive consistent execution across all assigned locations.

You report to the VP of Yards & Instruction and are the senior field leader for your region—the connection between corporate standards and what actually happens on the ground. You work alongside the National Yard Administrator on compliance and documentation, and with yard leadership at every assigned location on staffing, safety, and student experience. This is a field-based role with regular travel across your assigned yards. Your presence in the yard—with employees, instructors, and students—is the job.

WHAT YOU'LL DO AS THE REGIONAL YARD MANAGER

Yard Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations across multiple CDL training yards, ensuring each location operates efficiently and meets company expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional training environment that supports effective student learning.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to yard staff, instructors, and support personnel.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence at assigned yards by regularly engaging with employees, instructors, and students.
  • Monitor daily yard operations and address issues that may impact student experience, safety, or training quality.

Training Quality & Instruction

  • Ensure instructors deliver consistent, high-quality training that follows company standards and instructional guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate instructor-to-student ratios by supporting effective staffing and scheduling practices.
  • Promote and enforce company standards for professionalism, appearance, conduct, and workplace expectations.
  • Resolve student, instructor, and client concerns in a professional and timely manner.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all training activities comply with FMCSA regulations, including Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements.
  • Implement and enforce yard safety procedures to protect employees, students, equipment, and visitors.
  • Support FMCSA inspections and audits by ensuring facilities, vehicles, and training environments meet compliance expectations.
  • Conduct regular yard visits and inspections to ensure safety, cleanliness, equipment readiness, and operational consistency.

Fleet, Facilities, & Equipment

  • Ensure training vehicles are properly maintained, safe, compliant, and available for student instruction.
  • Ensure training facilities, classrooms, driving areas, and equipment are maintained to company standards.
  • Coordinate equipment movement and transfers between yards to support regional operational needs.

People & Staffing

  • Own hiring and staffing needs at all assigned locations, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding in partnership with the People Team.
  • Support staff travel coordination as needed to maintain regional coverage and operational requirements.

Execution & Improvement

  • Drive consistent execution across all assigned locations—one standard, every yard.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist in implementing operational enhancements across assigned locations.
  • Work with the National Yard Administrator and yard leadership to close compliance and documentation gaps.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Report to the VP of Yards & Instruction and own operational execution across all assigned yards.
  • Measured on yard safety, training quality and consistency (first-time pass rate), staffing levels, fleet readiness, compliance and audit outcomes, and student experience (student survey ratings).
  • Maintain the standard that every assigned yard is safe, staffed, clean, and ready for students—and for any federal, state, or customer inspection—on any given day.
  • Maintain a visible field presence through regular yard visits and inspections—this role is led from the yard, not from a desk.
  • Partner with the National Yard Administrator to keep records, credentials, and compliance documentation complete and current at every location.

Requirements
  • Proven multi-site operations leadership experience running more than one location to a single standard.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, and holding teams accountable with respect.
  • Safety-first mindset with the discipline to enforce standards consistently.

  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills while managing many locations and moving pieces simultaneously.
  • Postsecondary education or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proficiency with office technology applications.
  • Must reside in one of the following states: CO, NM, OR, ID, NV, CA

Preferred

  • Experience in CDL training, trucking, transportation, or logistics operations.
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations, including ELDT requirements.
  • CDL Class A license or previous CDL instructor experience.
  • Fleet, facility, or equipment management experience.
  • Experience supporting regulatory audits and inspections.

WHY 160 DRIVING ACADEMY

We train the people America runs on. Truck drivers move the food, the medicine, the building materials, and the everyday goods that keep this country working. Helping a student finish the program and land a job is helping them step into a stable, well-paying, in-demand career—often the first one they've had.

Our 600+ WIOA partnerships, our work with veterans and second-chance candidates, and our reputation with carriers across 32 states are all earned in the yard—one safe, professional, well-run training day at a time. This role owns that ground game for an entire region.

If you want to do work that matters, lead teams that change lives, and be part of a company that is actively investing in its people—we want to talk.
