Physician Liaison

Description

The Physician Liaison is responsible for developing and maintaining referral relationships that support patient growth across the orthopedic practice. This position serves as the primary field representative to referring clinics, employers, workers' compensation stakeholders, case managers, insurance representatives, and community organizations.


The Liaison will execute outreach strategies, strengthen referral partnerships, identify growth opportunities, and represent the organization at community and industry events.


Key Responsibilities:

Referral Development

  • Conduct routine visits to referring physician offices, urgent care centers, primary care clinics, physical therapy practices, and specialty providers.
  • Build relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, office managers, referral coordinators, and clinic leadership.
  • Educate referral sources on physician specialties, access points, services, and scheduling processes.
  • Resolve referral barriers and improve ease of access.
  • Coordinate physician meetings and educational events
  • Track referral trends by clinic

Workers' Compensation Outreach

Develop relationships with:

  • Employers
  • HR leaders
  • Safety directors
  • Risk managers
  • Third-party administrators
  • Workers' compensation case managers
  • Insurance adjusters

          o   Promote urgent injury access and orthopedic services.

          o   Identify opportunities to participate in safety meetings and employer health initiatives.

          o   Coordinate onsite educational events


Community Engagement

  • Plan and attend community events, health fairs, chamber activities, and networking functions.
  • Coordinate physician speaking engagements.
  • Assist with sports medicine and community sponsorship activities.

Business Development

  • Maintain a prospect list and outreach plan.
  • Research new referral opportunities.
  • Track competitive intelligence and market trends.
  • Provide regular feedback to leadership regarding referral opportunities and concerns.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with marketing, physician leaders, department managers, and scheduling teams.
  • Communicate referral source feedback and service issues.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives and service line campaigns.
  • Provide monthly market intelligence regarding:

      o   Competitor activity

      o   Referral opportunities

      o   Employer needs

      o   Community trends

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, healthcare administration, communication, or similar is preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in healthcare sales, physician relations, pharmaceutical sales, medical device sales, workers' compensation sales, or business development.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Flexible schedule to meet the needs of the position
