At Joyce University, we believe exceptional nursing education starts with exceptional educators and academic leaders. As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you will play an important role in supporting the success of our nursing programs, faculty, preceptors, and students. 


This position combines academic leadership, faculty development, clinical education, and operational oversight. You'll work closely with the Associate Dean of Nursing and Compliance to support faculty, strengthen the student learning experience, and help ensure our nursing programs meet high standards for teaching, compliance, accreditation, and student outcomes. 


A key focus of this role is owning the preceptor model across Joyce University's undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. You'll help build strong relationships with preceptors, ensure appropriate credentialing and documentation, provide orientation and ongoing support, and make sure students are matched with qualified preceptors who can support their learning and program outcomes.

What You'll Do 

Lead and Develop Faculty 

  • Manage assigned nursing faculty, including orientation, onboarding, mentoring, workload, and ongoing support. 
  • Participate in faculty hiring and provide input on faculty assignments and course scheduling. 
  • Conduct semester and annual performance reviews and develop individualized professional development plans. 
  • Plan and participate in faculty development activities. 
  • Support instructors in achieving course and program outcomes and maintaining excellence in teaching. 
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty as directed by the Associate Dean of Nursing and Compliance. 

Champion the Preceptor Experience 

  • Own the preceptor model for all undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. 
  • Assign and approve preceptors based on course objectives, student level, and program outcomes. 
  • Verify and maintain required preceptor credentials and documentation before placements begin. 
  • Provide preceptor orientation, mentoring, and ongoing support. 
  • Monitor preceptor performance and respond to student or program concerns. 
  • Partner with Clinical Placement to ensure all required preceptor documentation is complete before a student placement begins. 
  • Monitor preceptor capacity against projected enrollment and identify potential gaps early. 
  • Track and verify precepted clinical hours required for student progression and program completion. 

Support Academic Excellence 

  • Provide input into curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. 
  • Evaluate course examinations before and after administration. 
  • Help ensure instructors work collaboratively and effectively toward course outcomes. 
  • Support evidence-based teaching practices and continuous improvement across nursing programs. 
  • Contribute to the systematic plan of evaluation, including preceptor, clinical site, and clinical outcome data. 

Support Compliance & Accreditation 

  • Partner with the Associate Dean of Nursing and Compliance on assigned compliance, accreditation, and regulatory responsibilities. 
  • Help ensure nursing programs meet institutional and programmatic accreditation standards and state board of nursing requirements. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation and processes that support regulatory and accreditation expectations. 
  • Represent Joyce University and its nursing programs professionally with state and national regulatory and accreditation agencies. 

Support Students & the University Community 

  • Assist with student inquiries and connect students with the appropriate academic nursing leader. 
  • Help identify and address challenges that affect the student learning experience. 
  • Participate in committees, commencement, pinning ceremonies, and other University activities. 
  • Teach courses as assigned.

Requirements

What We're Looking For 

We're looking for an experienced nursing educator and academic leader who brings strong clinical and educational expertise, a collaborative leadership style, and a genuine commitment to student success. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Professional nursing license in the applicable specialty that is current and unencumbered. 
  • Doctoral or professional degree in the nursing specialty. 
  • 2–3 years of experience in online and on-ground teaching, curriculum design, and faculty development. 
  • Strong understanding of nursing education and academic leadership. 
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, support, and develop faculty. 
  • Strong communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, students, administrators, and external partners. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Doctorate in Nursing (DNP or PhD). 
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). 
  • Experience with clinical placement or preceptor management.
