Underwriting & Agency Services Lead Specialist
Description

About the Role

Taurus is looking for an Underwriting & Agency Services Specialist to serve as the connective tissue between our underwriting operations and our network of flood insurance agents. This role blends technical underwriting judgment with hands-on agency support — you'll review and process flood policy submissions while also acting as a go-to resource for agents navigating our NFIP/WYO and private flood programs (Hiscox FloodPlus, Tokio Marine).

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys both the analytical side of underwriting and the relationship-building side of agency support, and who wants exposure to a fast-growing, multi-carrier flood insurance platform. This is a non-exempt position and is overtime and benefit eligible.

What You'll Do

Agency Services

• Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners by providing consultation, training, and ongoing support related to flood insurance products, coverage, eligibility, and program requirements.

• Support agent onboarding, including licensing/appointment verification and platform (Odyssey) training

• Troubleshoot quoting and binding issues across multirater and direct-to-carrier channels

• Partner with agency recruitment and sales teams to resolve escalations and improve agent experience

• Track and report on agent-level submission quality, conversion, and service metrics

Underwriting

• Review new business and renewal flood submissions for underwriting eligibility, rating accuracy, and compliance with NFIP and private flood program guidelines

• Evaluate elevation certificates, flood zone determinations, and property risk characteristics to make or recommend underwriting decisions

• Identify and resolve underwriting discrepancies, referring complex or out-of-guideline risks to senior underwriters

• Maintain underwriting documentation and audit trails in line with WYO and carrier requirements

• Monitor underwriting quality and compliance standards, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.

Cross-Functional

• Collaborate with operations, compliance, claims, and customer service teams to ensure seamless policy administration and customer experience

• Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory reporting activities to ensure adherence to all applicable requirements

• Support strategic initiatives and contribute to departmental goals related to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and business growth

• Contribute to underwriting guideline updates and agency-facing documentation (FAQs, bulletins, job aids)

Why Taurus

• Work at the center of one of the fastest-growing flood insurance platforms in the country

• Exposure across underwriting, distribution, claims, and technology — not siloed into one lane

• Tampa-based team culture - Bull Speed Ahead

Requirements

What You Bring

• 2+ years of experience in insurance underwriting, underwriting support, or agency/producer services (flood or P&C preferred)

• Familiarity with NFIP/WYO flood insurance program requirements a strong plus; private flood product exposure a bonus

• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and seamlessly transition between diverse areas of responsibility while maintaining accuracy and productivity.

• Demonstrated learning agility with the ability to quickly acquire new knowledge, adapt to changing business needs, and apply new skills effectively in a dynamic environment.

• Comfort reviewing technical documentation (elevation certificates, flood maps, rating engines)

• Strong communication skills — able to explain underwriting decisions clearly to non-underwriters

• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage a high volume of submissions and inquiries

• Experience with policy administration systems (e.g., Odyssey) or comparable platforms is a plus

• Insurance licensing (or willingness to obtain) as required by state
