Position Summary
The FDA Tester is responsible for planning, developing, executing, and documenting software testing activities for FDA applications and digital solutions. The Tester validates functional and nonfunctional requirements, identifies and tracks defects, supports regression and release testing, and works closely with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet documented requirements, quality standards, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and release expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review business, functional, and technical requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and design documentation to develop comprehensive test scenarios and test cases.
- Develop, maintain, and execute manual and automated test scripts for functional, integration, regression, system, and user acceptance testing support.
- Validate application functionality against approved requirements and acceptance criteria and ensure expected results are clearly documented.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects through resolution using JIRA or other approved defect management tools.
- Perform regression testing for application enhancements, defect fixes, configuration changes, and production releases.
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, product owners, and other team members to clarify requirements, reproduce defects, and validate corrective actions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, as needed.
- Prepare test plans, test cases, test data, test execution results, defect reports, and testing status reports.
- Support Section 508 accessibility testing and document accessibility findings in accordance with project and FDA requirements.
- Support performance and compatibility testing activities as required by the application and release scope.
- Perform browser, device, and environment validation for web-based applications as applicable.
- Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, defects, and test results throughout the software development life cycle.
- Execute smoke and sanity testing to validate application readiness before and after deployments.
- Support user acceptance testing by preparing test materials, assisting business users, documenting results, and coordinating defect resolution.
- Participate in release readiness and stage gate activities and provide testing evidence required for application releases.
- Validate production deployments and perform post-release verification to confirm critical functionality is operating as expected.
- Assist with test automation by identifying repeatable test scenarios and developing or maintaining automated test scripts where appropriate.
- Work with development and DevOps teams to support testing across development, test, staging, and production-like environments.
- Communicate testing risks, blockers, defects, and quality concerns to project leadership in a timely manner.
- Ensure testing documentation is complete, accurate, repeatable, and maintained in accordance with project standards.
- Develop weekly and monthly testing status reports and quality metrics as requested.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, templates, automation, and quality assurance practices.
- Perform additional quality assurance and application validation activities as assigned
Required Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline highly preferred.
· Three plus years of experience in Information Technology performing software testing or quality assurance activities.
· Experience developing and executing detailed test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test data.
· Experience documenting test results and defects and tracking issues through resolution.
· Experience testing web-based applications throughout the software development life cycle.
· Experience performing functional, integration, system, regression, smoke, and release testing.
· Experience validating requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria and maintaining requirements-to-test traceability.
· Experience supporting user acceptance testing and collaborating with business stakeholders.
· Experience with test automation tools and automated regression testing.
· Experience supporting Section 508 accessibility testing and remediation validation.
· Experience with performance testing concepts and tools.
· Proficient with JIRA or similar Agile lifecycle and defect tracking tools.
· Proficient in formal software development life cycle and quality assurance processes.
· Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet release deadlines.
· Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to identify, reproduce, and clearly communicate software defects.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, business analysts, project managers, and customer stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience supporting FDA or other federal government programs.
· Experience testing FDA applications, public-facing websites, or regulated digital solutions.
· Experience with JIRA and FDA development, testing, or release processes.
· Experience with Section 508 accessibility standards and accessibility testing tools.
