We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Assistant Mechanic to support our shop team in maintaining and repairing a wide variety of commercial landscaping equipment and fleet vehicles. In this role, you will play a key part in keeping our crews on the road and our machinery running efficiently. You will perform routine preventive maintenance, assist with diagnostic troubleshooting, and repair both small engine units and automotive vehicles.


Responsibilities for Assistant Mechanic

  • Small Engine Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine servicing, oil changes, blade sharpening, filter replacements, and repairs on commercial mowers (zero-turn, walk-behind, stand-on), edgers, line trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers.
  • Fleet Vehicle Operations: Assist with basic maintenance on light-to-medium duty trucks, dump trucks, and trailers (e.g., oil changes, tire replacements, tire rotations, brake service, light wiring, and hitch repairs).
  • Equipment Safety Checks: Inspect machinery and trailers before daily dispatch to ensure safe operation and compliance with company safety standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Support the Lead Mechanic in diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and fuel system issues.
  • Shop Maintenance & Inventory: Keep shop work areas clean, organized, and stocked with safety supplies. Track inventory of spare parts, blades, belts, and engine oils.
  • Field Support: Occasionally respond to field service calls to address equipment/vehicle breakdowns on job sites.
Requirements
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience working on small engines (2-stroke and 4-stroke) or basic automotive repair (prior experience in landscaping equipment repair is a plus).
  • Technical Aptitude: Understanding of basic mechanical systems, hydraulics, and 12-volt electrical systems.
  • Tool Requirements: Possession of a standard basic mechanics tool set (specialized tools provided by shop).
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (ability to tow small trailers is preferred).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50–70 lbs regularly, bend, stoop, stand, and work in shop environments with varying temperatures.
