The Maintenance Technician II is a skilled technical role responsible for independently maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex manufacturing, packaging, and facility equipment to maximize production efficiency and ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and safety standards.


This position supports Nutramax’s production of safe, high-quality products by performing advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on automated systems, programable logic controller (PLC) -controlled equipment, motors, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, and facility infrastructure. The Maintenance Technician II serves as a technical resource to production and junior maintenance staff to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Equipment & Production Support

  • Independently plan, organize, and execute mechanical and electrical work required to support safe and efficient manufacturing and packaging operations.
  • Perform equipment setup, changeovers, and advanced line adjustments to maintain optimal machine performance while adhering to cGMP and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) requirements.
  • Maintain, repair, and optimize manufacturing, filling, and packaging equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns with advanced troubleshooting techniques to minimize downtime.
  • Perform planned, unplanned and emergency maintenance on production equipment.
  • Conduct routine preventive and predictive maintenance to improve reliability and extend equipment life.
  • Utilize root cause analysis (RCA) to identify failures, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.

Electrical, Controls & Automation

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems up to 480V AC and/or DC Circuits.
  • Independently troubleshoot, maintain, and interact with PLC systems, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens [AL1] platforms.
  • Independently troubleshoot and support controls and automation components, including: 
    • PLCs
    • HMIs
    • Servo drives
    • Photo eyes and proximity sensors
  • Independently troubleshoot, install, and test variable-frequency drive (VFDs).
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and replace AC/DC electrical controls and power distribution components.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.

Mechanical & Facility Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems including pumps, motors, conveyors, gearboxes, and automated      machinery.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment using precision measurement tools.
  • Perform general facility maintenance including plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
  • Safely and effectively operate hand tools, power tools, voltmeters, and material handling equipment.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications.

Compliance, Safety & Documentation

  • Ensure all work complies with established SOPs, cGMP standards, and safety policies, including lockout/tagout.
  • Accurately complete maintenance documentation and work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and proactively identify parts and material needs.
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and continuous improvement projects.

Leadership & Team Support

  • Act as a technical resource for Maintenance Technician I and production personnel.
  • Assist with training and mentoring maintenance team members on equipment, troubleshooting techniques, SOPs, GMPs, and safety practices.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other departments.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for services related to equipment or facilities.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive safety culture within the maintenance department.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of company objectives.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in electrical and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance in an industrial environment.

Additional Skills & Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with HVAC systems, welding, and industrial automation.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing and packaging systems.
  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or other GMP-regulated environments.

Physical & Functional Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours per shift.
  • Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and work at height or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands and arms for lifting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use basic and complex hand tools safely. 

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a GMP or pharmaceutical manufacturing      environment
  • Technical or Vocational training required

This position prepares the employee for possible advancement to Maintenance Technician III based on demonstrated technical expertise, leadership ability, and performance
