Operational Excellence Engineer

Job Summary:

The Operational Excellence (OPX) Engineer is responsible for implementing production systems, which utilize techniques such as 5S, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), Lean, Six Sigma, etc. The OPX Engineer work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, implement best practices, and develop strategies to enhance overall operational performance.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Analyze existing processes and workflows to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with teams to streamline processes and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Implement Lean and Six Sigma principles to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Support the plant/top managers regarding the implementation status.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to identify trends, patterns, and areas of improvement.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational success.
  • Analyze performance metrics to drive informed decision-making.
  • Develop a system to audit systems that are put in place to ensure they are continually followed.
  • Implement standardized shop floor production boards and monitor them for proper use.
  • Create and implement 5S standards for all areas of the organization (production, store rooms, offices, electronic file storage, etc…)
  • Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular process audits and assessments.
  • Provide training and support to teams on operational excellence methodologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the organization.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to drive and manage change initiatives.
  • Ensure smooth implementation of process improvements and changes.
  • Communicate changes effectively across the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement operational best practices.
  • Work with leadership to align operational strategies with overall business objectives.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of quality and production systems
  • Understanding of lean tools with the desire to become an expert.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical ability 
  • Skilled in data analytics
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Excellent reasoning and problem solving ability. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Leadership and management ability 
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in (i.e. Microsoft Office, Minitab, Power BI, Smartsheet)
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Proven experience in operational excellence, process improvement, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Excellent project management and change management skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence teams towards a culture of continuous improvement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Green or Black Belt certified preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience utilizing lean tools 
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience in leading projects in different companies

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
