The Operations Research Analyst will provide advanced analytical and operational research support. The position is responsible for conducting scientific analyses, evaluating operational and aeromedical challenges, developing analytical approaches to complex research questions, supporting health and human performance studies, advising stakeholders on data-driven decision making, and producing technical reports, presentations, and recommendations that improve operational readiness and mission effectiveness across the U.S. Air Force. The analyst will work collaboratively with researchers, military personnel, government stakeholders, and academic partners while applying rigorous quantitative methodologies to support USAFSAM’s studies and analysis portfolio.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related analytical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in operations research, advanced analytics, or quantitative analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in scientific inquiry, research design, quantitative analysis, and operations research methodologies.
- Experience conducting complex analyses using large datasets and developing evidence-based recommendations.
- Ability to analyze operational, organizational, and research challenges and evaluate alternative solutions.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience developing reports, white papers, manuscripts, presentations, and briefing materials.
- Experience using or rapidly learning analytical tools such as Python, R, Tableau, SAS Viya, Qualtrics, or similar platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational abilities, initiative, professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Must be eligible to obtain required access to government systems and databases and comply with NDA and background investigation requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military service or experience supporting Department of Defense, Air Force, or military research organizations.
- Experience with aerospace medicine, human performance, health surveillance, readiness, or operational health studies.
- Familiarity with healthcare, military personnel, or operational databases.
- Experience supporting scientific research portfolios and multidisciplinary research teams.
- Knowledge of health-related data analytics, epidemiological datasets, or readiness assessment methodologies.
- Experience briefing senior leaders and presenting complex analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Publication history in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, or conference proceedings.
- Experience supporting government-funded research programs or federally funded studies.
- Familiarity with acquisition, project management, or research protocol development processes.
- Experience working in highly regulated environments involving sensitive or proprietary information.
