What YOU will do:

Aethon is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of mechanical and electromechanical systems for current and next-generation robotic solutions. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise to drive the development of innovative robotic platforms from concept through manufacturing and field deployment.

You will provide technical leadership for various internal and external development projects while collaborating closely with Electrical, Software, Systems, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams. Responsibilities include requirements development, system architecture, detailed mechanical design, prototyping, analysis, verification, validation, and manufacturing transfer. The ideal candidate possesses strong experience in complex electromechanical systems, autonomous platforms, and product development from concept to production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical solutions for autonomous mobile robotic platforms, driving technical decisions across structural, motion control, packaging, thermal, and manufacturability domains.
  • Own the full lifecycle of mechanical subsystem development, including requirements definition, architecture, design, analysis, prototyping, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Provide technical leadership on development projects, coordinating design activities across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Translate product requirements into detailed mechanical constraints, specifications, design requirements, and validation plans.
  • Conduct concept development, trade studies, and feasibility analyses to evaluate new technologies, architectures, and product features.
  • Lead the creation and review of engineering documentation including mechanical specifications, interface definitions, DFMEA activities, test plans, and engineering reports.
  • Coordinate with leadership, program management, and cross-functional teams to ensure product development activities remain aligned with program objectives and schedules.
  • Plan and execute engineering verification, design validation, reliability, and production validation testing activities.
  • Develop detailed component and assembly models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, structural calculations, fatigue assessments, thermal analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Act as a technical interface with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external engineering partners to support product development and manufacturing readiness.
  • Work with manufacturing, quality, and service teams to troubleshoot issues, lead root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions that improve product reliability and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for existing products, manufacturing processes, and cost optimization efforts.
