Description

Purpose: Under the direction of the Director of Sports Performance, the Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach will provide support in the development and management of individual and team performance enhancement programs on behalf of ESD’s Department of Athletics.   The primary function of this position will be to assist in overseeing the strength/conditioning programming and equipment, along with delivering a comprehensive, practical and evidence based strategy that fosters an environment for performance enhancement, injury prevention, recovery, and reconditioning.   

 

Essential Functions:

Successful management of  the Strength & Conditioning Program:

  • Assist in facilitating regular meetings with program directors (head varsity coaches) to establish and review strength and conditioning goals for each athletic team.
  • Develop comprehensive athletic performance programs for all sports. 
  • Design and implement programs to include strength training, conditioning, speed-power development, agility and injury prevention.  
  • Utilize testing/ evaluations of student athletes for input in development of program.   
  • Manage scheduling of times and days for all 22 sports programs year-round. 
    • Provide attendance reports to coaches. 
  • Work closely with Athletic Training staff on rehabilitation and injury prevention and instruction for student athletes. 
  • Serve as a double-goal coach, to include strength and conditioning lessons as well as life lessons including honesty, selflessness, character, serving others, being a positive leader and teammate. 
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and management of the strength and conditioning facilities. 
  • Perform regular general maintenance on equipment in the strength and conditioning center. 
  • Perform opening and closing duties for the strength and conditioning center, including cleaning of equipment and regulation of Television and video equipment. 

Provide support for Physical Education Department:

  • Ability to teach physical education classes as needed.
  • Provide encouragement and instruction for student workouts as needed. 
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by the physical education department chair. 

Serve as an advisor at the discretion of the Head of the Middle School or the Head of the Upper School.


Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance.

 

Abuse Risk Management Standards:

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students. 
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising students.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. 
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Working Environment:

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. 
  • Generally 25% sitting, 40% walking and 35% standing. 
  • Minimal temperature variations.
  • Potential for irregular schedule to include early morning, evening, and/or weekend work

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with a Master’s preferred (Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Physical Education, Sports Psychology, Health Performance)
  • Certification thru the NSCA, CSCCA, or USA Weightlifting preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in strength & conditioning or a fitness related field.
  • Experience in an Independent School setting preferred
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, e-mail program and fitness tracking program. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Solid problem-solving and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to mentor and assist in supervising staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, coaches, parents and administration.
