Pay Transparency: This position’s annual pay range is $63,993.90 - $71,672.55.


Primary Worksite Location: Treehouse office in Seattle, WA.  This is a hybrid position with some in-office work required

Job Summary:  


The Marketing & Communications Manager is a generalist adept in a variety of areas including writing and editing, producing video and photography content, and providing Marketing and Communications-related event support. The Marketing & Communications Manager serves as a mission-driven, equity-centered staff member who contributes regularly to advance the organization’s commitment to anti-racism, social justice, and belonging. 


This role will take the lead on creating editorial and content calendars, and on Treehouse’s social media, digital marketing campaigns, and reporting. The Marketing & Communications Manager supports strategic communications and marketing strategies that elevate the organizational mission, values, and goals, amplify Treehouse’s impact, and inspire public and philanthropic support. The position produces engaging and informative short- and long-form digital and print content for internal and external audiences inclusively and equitably. The Marketing & Communications Manager helps retain, expand, and deepen Treehouse's reach. 


The Marketing & Communications Manager helps ensure the needs of the youth Treehouse serves are met, aligning programmatic and operational goals through a culturally responsive and inclusive approach with acknowledgement of the trauma experienced by youth in care. The role seeks to help dismantle systemic inequities, promote psychological safety, engage in equitable practices across systems, and contribute to an organizational culture rooted in dignity, accountability, and care in service of the youth that Treehouse supports.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 


Communications Strategy:

  • Actively contribute to the implementation of marketing and communications strategy to elevate the voice of youth and people with lived experiences in foster care as well as provide visibility and engagement to the organization’s mission, vision, values, and commitment to anti-racism work. 

Community-Building Marketing and Communications – Social Media:

  • Lead and manage social media planning and calendar, content development, and campaigns.
  • Develop engaging, effective, and relevant content in partnership with other staff that provides insight into stories, experiences, news, and issues related to foster care and Treehouse – in alignment with organizational values.
  • Foster and grow the Treehouse community of social media ambassadors and influencers in an inclusive and equitable manner.
  • Track and report on performance and analytics of social media posts and content.
  • Identify relevant topics trending on social media and in local and national foster care conversations.
  • Stay up to date on social platform and industry changes and other opportunities for the Treehouse brand and voice to stay relevant in social spaces.
  • Optimize the ability of social media to grow the overall base and diversity of the Treehouse community and database by utilizing and integrating with assigned platforms and tools.

Content Creation, Copywriting, Branding, and Production:

  • Support the writing and editing needs for a wide range of external communications for diverse audiences – including content for social media, websites, reports, blog posts, mailings, and collateral (including donor-facing materials).
  • Serve as the lead for creating and tracking Treehouse editorial and publication calendars.
  • Adhere to guidelines for Treehouse’s identity/brand positioning, voice, and tone to ensure that Treehouse uses clear, consistent, and compelling language across marketing, fundraising, and other communication materials incorporating Treehouse values. 
  • Help produce photos, video, and stories that highlight Treehouse’s diverse partnerships and community.
  • Support internal communications through assigned channels and utilizing designated platforms.
  • Support content needs for the internal All-Staff SharePoint landing page.
  • Help maintain Treehouse style guide standards.
  • As needed, support video creation, editing, and marketing and communications event support.

Marketing Strategy:

  • Develop, optimize, execute, and evaluate integrated marketing campaigns to build awareness and deepen audience engagement inclusively and equitably.
  • Conduct market research, monitor digital marketing trends, oversee digital campaigns, and identify marketing opportunities in the digital space.
  • Perform analysis of the audience journey and other relevant data across multiple channels, messages, and content to inform optimal engagement opportunities.

Email Marketing:

  • Develop, plan, and track performance for email communications to engage and build a diverse audience, including using targeted content, audience segments, and A/B testing.
  • Develop and coordinate the email communications calendar for all Treehouse audiences and serve as the staff expert to provide expertise and guidance as well as establish best practices and learning.
  • Partner across teams to maintain and build email lists.

Web and Online Marketing:

  • Support online marketing strategies, utilizing multiple channels, including email, social media, and website.
  • Support with maintenance and content for external and internal websites as needed.

  • Engage in ongoing education and reflection to strengthen Treehouse’s ability to support the growth, success, and well-being of the historically underserved students that Treehouse serves.
  • Collaborate to build long-term, respectful partnerships with community groups and organizations as appropriate to ensure offerings to youth are culturally grounded and community-informed.
  • Practice abundance by helping ensure that youth receive plentiful educational and community resources to promote educational attainment for staff and youth, helping adjust priorities through open dialogue, feedback, and transparent decision-making to ensure equitable service to youth.
  • Establish inclusive, welcoming, and equitable team engagement, ensuring that teams provide a safe, positive, respectful experience, inclusive of all racial and gender identities.
  • Embrace transformation by seeking out perspectives across the organization and with partner organizations and communities to evolve how Treehouse serves students with curiosity and openness to new ideas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements


  

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of experience in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in managing an organization’s social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating data, current issues, and research.
  • Demonstrated experience managing production of communication materials and other projects. 
  • Experience working with project management software e.g., Asana, Monday.com preferred.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and design software desired. 
  • Experience with photography, video editing, and production skills preferred.
  • Reliable transportation, current driver's license, and at least minimum WA State driver insurance coverage required, if appropriate. Driving record must be approved by Treehouse’s insurance provider. 
  • Must satisfy Washington State and national criminal background requirements for working with youth and vulnerable adults. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities and manage effectively in times of ambiguity and change. 
  • Ability to successfully manage a variety of competing priorities and deadlines. 
  • Familiarity with AP Style. 
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to consistently produce quality work in a demanding, fast-paced environment. 
  • Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. 
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and with diverse audiences, including young people who have experienced foster care or other kinds of trauma. 
  • Ability to thrive while working independently outside an office setting, while maintaining trusting, healthy relationships with coworkers and manager to promote a productive workplace culture and strong employee engagement.
  • Ability to build positive and effective working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities. 
  • Ability and aptitude using Microsoft Office 365 tools and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and sign a confidentiality agreement. 

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, hybrid position. 
  • Expected hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. 
  • Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must reside within Washington State to comply with workplace reporting requirements.

Travel: 

  • Occasional regional travel during working hours to meet with team members, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Infrequent overnight travel required. 

Physical and Mental Requirements: 

  • Physical Requirements – long periods of stationary work, working on a computer, moving between various work areas, going up and down stairs, talking on the phone, working with office/computer equipment, and sitting at a desk or table while listening, talking, and taking notes. 
  • Mental Requirements – Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that creates confidence and trust.
