Position Summary

Project Engineer is a mid-level role responsible for managing day-to-day technical and operational tasks for engineering and construction administration and supporting field-driven engineering solutions. Project Engineers work independently on routine projects, coordinate directly with builders and architects, and contribute to continuous improvement of USC structural standards, SOPs, and QA workflows.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and help resolve field issues, including RFI responses, submittals, constructability adjustments, and remediation recommendations.
  • Set timelines, track project phases, and sequence daily technical activities.
  • Prepare various project documents including cut and grout letters, letters of substantial completion and others as required.
  • Act as a main link between clients, project managers, contractors, and field staff.
  • Prepare and/or review structural designs and details for residential projects (single-family, townhomes, and multi-family), including foundations and framing.
  • Assist with development and refinement of structural SOPs, standard details, and design tools; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional partners (operations, inspection, CAD production) to meet schedule commitments and client expectations.
  • Mentor and support designers/EITs through technical guidance, redlines, and coaching (as assigned).
  • Perform engineering duties including gravity framing, foundation, and shearwall design. 


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering (structural/Civil emphasis preferred) or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of the IRC, IBC, ASCE, ACI, PTI and AISC code standards.
  • Knowledge of general design principles and previous experience with structural design software including Enercalc, Revit, PTIslab, RetainPro and Forte, Woodworks
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; ability to produce and review clear, accurate structural plans.
  • Strong understanding of core code requirements and engineering fundamentals; ability to apply standard details appropriately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate professionally with builders, architects, owners, and drafting team.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills; able to manage multiple projects concurrently under tight timelines.
  • Self-starter with sound judgment; able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to support occasional field visits as required.
