Position Summary

The Human Resources / Payroll Assistant will provide administrative support for daily HR and payroll functions, including recruiting, onboarding, timekeeping, payroll, benefits, employee inquiries, and employee records.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, discreet with confidential information, and comfortable communicating with employees and management at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and employee onboarding.
  • Post job vacancies, review applications, print applications, and schedule interviews.
  • Assist with employee relations and conflict management efforts.
  • Support positive and professional communication across departments and teams.
  • Review employee timecards and ensure hours are accurate and properly recorded.
  • Assist with payroll processing and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Assist with employee benefit administration.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding:
  • Payroll and wages
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Health insurance and benefits
  • FMLA and leave-related matters
  • Company policies and procedures
  • General HR-related questions
  • Organize and distribute employee paychecks and payroll-related documents.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee and personnel records.
  • Assist with Workers’ Compensation procedures and documentation.
  • Assist with compliance-related HR tasks and documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information.
  • Perform other HR, payroll, and administrative duties as assigned.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in Human Resources administration required.
  • 1–2 years of payroll experience required.
  • Automotive dealership payroll experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment and labor laws.
  • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, dependable, and team-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn HR, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
