Position Summary

Working alongside the Office of Recruitment and Admissions (ORA) staff, the Virtual Pathway Student Ambassador will help create, develop, and implement innovative strategies, experiences and materials to: 

  • Attract applicants;
  • Help train students to be lifelong recruiters and mentors;
  • Increase publicity for the College-Institute; and
  • Train recent and future alumni on recruitment efforts. 

The Student Ambassador will enhance their engagement, communication, counseling, and contact management skills while employed in this position. This individual must be an HUC student enrolled in the Virtual Pathway to the Rabbinate, who has already completed one full year of the program. 


Essential Responsibilities:


Create virtual experiences for prospective students: Serve as the primary student contact for prospective students participating in virtual visit experiences. Coordinate communication before, during, and after visits, and collaborate with the Program Director, faculty, current students, and ORA staff to deliver welcoming, informative, and intentional virtual experiences. 


Responsibilities include: 

  • Support the ORA team in planning and executing Virtual Open House events scheduled for October 2026, November 2026, February 2027, March 2027, and June 2027;
  • Coordinate with faculty to arrange opportunities for prospective students to observe classes;
  • Organize diverse and representative current student panels that provide prospective students with a range of perspectives and experiences;
  • Communicate with prospective students via email and/or phone/text to prepare them for their virtual visit and answer questions in advance;
  • Recruit, train, and support current students to serve as hosts during class observations and tefillah;
  • Partner with the ORA team to identify and implement improvements and opportunities that enhance the virtual visit experience;
  • In special circumstances, develop individualized virtual visit schedules, by coordinating class observations, meetings with faculty and program director, and interactions with current students to create engaging and comprehensive visit experiences. 

Prospective Student and Applicant Management Support: In coordination with the ORA Admissions Recruiter for the Virtual Pathway, the Student Ambassador will:

  •  Contact current prospective students to learn their goals for graduate study and share with them how HUC can help them meet those goals; o Offer insight on the admissions process, answer questions, and provide the prospective applicant with the necessary counsel to “shepherd” them through the admissions proces;
  • Reach out to future prospective students to offer a personal opportunity to connect with a current student and invite them to a virtual visit;
  • At the end of the admissions cycle, reach out to those who had inquired for that term to see if they are still interested for future cycles.


Admitted Student Support: 

  • Invite all admitted students to connect with a current student and facilitate those connections;
  • Reach out to encourage participation in the Virtual Pathway Spring pre-course and other preparatory offerings;
  • Offer perspective to admitted students about thoughtfully preparing for the start of the program.
Requirements


Education

  • Current HUC student enrolled in the Virtual Pathway to the Rabbinate.
  • Must have already completed one full year of the program. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience of the greater Jewish community, locally and beyond;
  • Excellent evaluation and record keeping skills with fine attention to detail;
  • Professional and courteous communicator, with administration and applicants alike;
  • Kind, honest and friendly person willing to be a part of a dynamic, remote, professional team;
  • Must be self-motivated, organized and able to manage many moving pieces and overlapping timelines at the same time;
  • Recruitment experience, academic or sales, is not required but appreciated. 

Compensation:

The position will require approximately 5 hours per week, with varying workload based on peak periods for recruitment, admissions, and virtual events. It will be paid $30 per hour up to 240 hours total across the period of hire from August 31, 2026 – July 31, 2027 (up to $7,200 gross pay). The Student Ambassador will need to log weekly hours in Paylocity. The total number of weeks worked should be agreed upon with your supervisor. Student Ambassadors may take unpaid time off as needed.
