POSITION SUMMARY

The Driver II operates company vehicles, including DOT-regulated Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs), to complete customer service routes including pickups, deliveries, and record transport while ensuring strict chain-of-custody, confidentiality, and service standards.

This role is responsible for the safe transportation of company assets and customer materials while maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), state regulations, and company safety requirements.

This position represents an intermediate role within the driver job family and supports operational execution, route reliability, customer service, and regulatory compliance in support of VRC’s service commitments.


This role includes authorized operation of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) and authorized operation of DOT-regulated company Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) to support route coverage, deliveries, or pickups when assigned. Employees must maintain required equipment certifications. A valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and compliance with DOT driver qualification requirements are required.

Requirements
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Operate company vehicles, including DOT-regulated Commercial Motor Vehicles, to support assigned service routes.
  • Operate Powered Industrial Trucks (forklifts, order pickers, electric pallet jacks).
  • Drive vans or box trucks to customer locations for pickups, deliveries, and service needs. Work directly with customers to fulfill service requests.
  • Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Comply with applicable Hours-of-Service requirements when operating regulated vehicles.
  • Immediately report on or off-duty accidents, citations, inspections, or license status changes.
  • Utilize handheld scanners and inventory management systems.
  • Meet established productivity, timeliness, and accuracy standards.
  • Maintain strict customer confidentiality and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Work directly with customers to fulfill service requests and represent the company professionally.
  • Assist team members and support operational needs including loading, unloading, and staging materials.
  • Follow all operational protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with all company safety procedures and OSHA standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company transportation regulations.


Route Execution & Service Reliability

Complete assigned service routes efficiently while meeting productivity, service, and scheduling expectations.

Maintain chain-of-custody and safeguard sensitive customer materials during transport, pickup, delivery, and service activities.


Customer Service & Professional Representation

Interact professionally with customers while representing the company and ensuring service requests are completed accurately.


Operational Support

Support operational efficiency by assisting with loading, unloading, scanning, and other service-related activities as required.

EQUIPMENT AUTHORIZATION

Driver II employees may operate powered industrial warehouse equipment and DOT-regulated vehicles, including:

  • Company vans and box trucks
  • DOT-regulated Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) as defined under 49 CFR §390.5 (10,001–25,999 lbs GVWR) in interstate commerce
  • Manual pallet jacks
  • Hand trucks and non-powered material handling equipment
  • Powered Industrial Trucks (certification required)

Employees may assist with loading, staging, and preparing materials for transport but may not operate equipment or vehicles outside their authorized classification

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must meet driver qualification standards under 49 CFR Part 391 when operating DOT-regulated vehicles
  • Must successfully complete a DOT pre-employment drug screening in accordance with federal regulations
  • Must maintain a current, valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting company standards

CDL Qualification Status

Employees possessing a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be treated as CDL-qualified drivers for regulatory and compliance purposes, regardless of the vehicle currently assigned. Such employees may be required to maintain CDL credentials and participate in the DOT drug and alcohol testing program in accordance with applicable federal regulations as operational needs require.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous route driving, delivery, or transportation experience preferred
  • Experience working in warehouse, logistics, or records management environments preferred
  • Experience operating commercial vehicles preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Drivers must maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as a condition of continued employment in this role.
  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification required (certification offered upon hire)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Demonstrated safe driving history with a strong commitment to defensive driving and roadway safety
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and represent the company positively while performing service routes.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and chain-of-custody standards when handling customer materials on-site.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, and balancing as required to load and unload materials
  • Ability to load, unload, and maneuver boxes, bins, and materials safely using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to work in varying and, at times, extreme weather and temperature conditions
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday
  • Ability to maintain alertness, sustained concentration, and situational awareness while performing driving duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT


Work is performed primarily in company vehicles and at customer locations, with regular interaction in warehouse environments. Drivers are exposed to varying road and traffic conditions and must operate safely in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, ice, and snow. Duties may require entering warehouses, storage facilities, and customer sites to load, unload, or retrieve materials. 


The role requires sustained attention, safe vehicle operation, and adherence to company safety and security protocols while meeting operational service expectations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


Employees assigned to driver positions must maintain all licenses, certifications, and regulatory qualifications required to perform the essential functions of the role. Failure to maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) when required, DOT medical certification, or other required regulatory qualifications may result in removal from driving duties and may impact eligibility to continue in the position.
