Description
The Pharmacist provides safe, accurate, timely, and compliant pharmacy services by reviewing and verifying medication orders, exercising professional judgment, resolving medication-related issues, guiding pharmacy technicians, and supporting production and clinical workflows.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Review, interpret, and clinically verify prescriptions and medication orders for accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, and compliance.
- Perform final verification of prepared medications and ensure product quality before dispensing.
- Identify and resolve interactions, duplications, dosing concerns, contraindications, allergies, and other medication-safety issues.
- Communicate with prescribers, facilities, caregivers, and internal partners to resolve prescription or medication concerns.
- Provide pharmacist oversight and direction to pharmacy technicians and student pharmacists within applicable law.
- Support controlled-medication, emergency-kit, MedBank, DOSIS, compounding, and other pharmacy workflows as qualified and assigned.
- Maintain complete documentation and comply with privacy, security, quality, controlled-substance, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance, service recovery, and continuous improvement activities.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited pharmacy program.
- Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of practice.
- Ability to exercise independent professional and clinical judgment in a high-volume pharmacy environment.
- Strong attention to detail, medication-safety orientation, communication skills, and ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Ability to work the schedule associated with the position and maintain all professional requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in long-term care, institutional, closed-door, specialty, infusion, IV, or high-volume pharmacy practice.
- Experience with pharmacy management systems, automation, and electronic medication-order workflows.
- Experience collaborating with pharmacy technicians and interdisciplinary healthcare partners.
