Description

CPIhealthhas an exciting open opportunity for a Resource Nurse role. The Resource Nurse provides clinical leadership and serves as a resource for patients, physicians, and staff throughout the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This role models the standards, values, and expectations of ASC leadership and CPIhealth while supporting day-to-day clinical and operational workflows.

The Resource Nurse assists all ASC staff members by providing clinical guidance, operational support, and leadership during routine operations and emergencies. The Resource Nurse also serves as the ASC’s designated Infection Prevention and Control Nurse and is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and enforcing the facility’s infection prevention program. 

Requirements

  

This position functions as a working Registered Nurse while assuming shift-level leadership Clinical and Operational Leadership

  • Oversees daily patient flow and      continuously monitors the ASC schedule, communicating changes promptly and      effectively to staff, providers, and leadership.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all clinical      departments and workflows within the ASC and provides support and coverage      as needed.
  • Assists with ASC opening and closing      responsibilities, including: 
    • Verifying supply readiness.
    • Confirming equipment functionality.
    • Ensuring the facility is prepared for       daily operations or properly secured at the end of the day.
  • Ensures staff members receive required meal      and rest breaks in accordance with facility policies while maintaining      safe staffing levels.
  • Adjusts staffing assignments in response to      patient volume and operational needs, including releasing excess staff      when appropriate and in coordination with the ASC Nurse Manager.
  • Maintains competency in emergency response      procedures and equipment and assumes a leadership role during clinical      emergencies, including but not limited to: 
    • Code Blue events.
    • Anaphylaxis.
    • Malignant Hyperthermia.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between      frontline staff and the ASC Nurse Manager during assigned shifts.
  • Escalates clinical, operational, safety,      and personnel concerns promptly and appropriately.

Compliance and Quality Oversight

  • Addresses patient, staff, and provider      concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promotes adherence to clinical, regulatory,      and behavioral standards, including: 
    • Auditing medical record documentation and       facilitating corrective actions when needed.
    • Addressing unprofessional conduct among       staff or providers.
    • Ensuring staff practice within their scope       of licensure and competency.
    • Identifying and correcting provider and       staff compliance issues.
    • Monitoring adherence to medication       administration, storage, security, and waste-disposal requirements.
    • Monitoring compliance with surgical safety       checklists, time-out procedures, and patient identification protocols.
    • Identifying and correcting breaches in       infection prevention standards.
  • Completes and submits incident reports in      collaboration with the ASC Nurse Manager.
  • Contributes audit findings, observations,      and performance data to the ASC's Quality Assessment and Performance      Improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Participates in QAPI meetings and quality      initiatives as requested.

Staff Support and Clinical Coverage

Provides direct clinical and operational support across all ASC departments, including but not limited to:

  • Patient admissions and discharges.
  • Collection of vital signs and point-of-care      testing, including pregnancy tests, blood glucose monitoring, and INR      testing.
  • Coordination and oversight of chart      preparation activities.
  • Delegation and monitoring of preoperative      phone calls.
  • Patient education in preoperative and      postoperative settings.
  • Inventory monitoring, stocking, and supply      management.
  • Coordination with physician offices and      referral sources to obtain required preoperative documentation.
  • Room turnover and cleaning activities,      including: 
    • Preoperative and postoperative bay       turnover.
    • Procedure room turnover.
    • Operating room turnover.
    • Terminal cleaning processes.

Infection Prevention and Control Responsibilities

Serves as the ASC Infection Prevention and Control Nurse and is responsible for the following:

  • Conducting monthly hand hygiene audits.
  • Monitoring daily infection prevention      practices throughout the facility.
  • Collecting and reviewing monthly surgical      site infection (SSI) reports from providers and documenting findings for      compliance and QAPI reporting.
  • Monitoring prophylactic antibiotic      administration for compliance with facility protocols.
  • Performing quarterly antibiotic      administration audits for ASC Board reporting.
  • Collaborating with the compliance team on      infection prevention initiatives and process improvement efforts.
  • Monitoring medication, supply, and sterile      product expiration dates.
  • Auditing skin preparation practices to      ensure compliance with facility standards.
  • Monitoring traffic flow and personnel      movement within procedure and operating rooms.
  • Ensuring staff, providers, and visitors      comply with ASC surgical attire and infection prevention policies.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve      infection prevention performance and regulatory compliance.

Staff Development

  • Assists with orientation, training, and      onboarding of new staff members.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor      for ASC personnel.
  • Provides guidance regarding policies,      workflows, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Communicates significant shift events,      safety concerns, operational challenges, and successes to the ASC Nurse      Manager at the conclusion of each shift or through established reporting      processes.

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

· Meets all licensing and certification requirements outlined in the Registered Nurse job description, including current RN licensure, BLS certification, and ACLS certification per the timelines specified therein.

· Minimum of 6 months of employment at the ASC required; 1 year of tenure preferred prior to assuming this role.

· Orientation and proficient knowledge in each department within the ASC: pre-op/recovery, pain room, OR, and PACU.

· Ability to fulfill staffing requirements in each department within the ASC when necessary.

· Ability to complete AORN’s Infection Control Course within 3 months of role acceptance (course provided by company).

· Demonstrated ability to lead peers in a clinical setting; prior charge nurse, resource nurse, or clinical lead experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

· Current state registration as a Registered Nurse.

· BLS certified or obtain certification within three months of hire. 

· ACLS certified or obtain certification within the first year of hire. For OR/Procedure circulating, ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
