The Senior Accountant, Technical Accounting will report to the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting and will support both general accounting close activities and technical accounting research, documentation, and implementation. The person in this role will partner with Accounting, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Commercial, Operations, external technical specialists, and auditors to help convert complex transactions into clear accounting conclusions, journal entries, controls, and reporting support.

Fervo is scaling rapidly, so this role requires strong ownership, crisp communication, a controls mindset, and the ability to partner effectively across Accounting, Finance, Operations, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Commercial, and external advisors.
Responsibilities
General Accounting and Close Support
· Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for assigned entities and accounts, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and management reporting support
· Record and reconcile activity in complex areas, including debt, stock compensation, derivatives, leases, intercompany balances, and structured transaction accruals
· Own the end-to-end lease accounting process, including operating the LeaseQuery system, recording associated journal entries, and actively participating in the relationship with the Land team and other lease stakeholders
· Analyze financial results and balance sheet accounts, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies with cross-functional stakeholders
· Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, or standardize recurring accounting and close workstreams
Technical Accounting Research and Documentation
· Draft technical accounting memos and position papers with oversight from the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting, taking simpler matters to completion and growing into more complex topics
· Review lease contracts in accordance with ASC 842, including geothermal leases
· Participate in preliminary contract reviews and support accounting assessments for procurement contracts, PPAs, and other commercial arrangements
· Maintain clear, audit-ready support that documents purpose, scope, authoritative guidance, inputs, assumptions, conclusions, controls, and reviewer sign-off
· Communicate the “why” behind technical accounting conclusions, explaining accounting nuance in plain language to cross-functional stakeholders
Audit, Valuation and Controls Support
· Prepare complete and accurate data for external valuation specialists and auditors, including support for stock-based compensation, warrants, embedded derivatives, and fair value analyses
· Manage assigned technical accounting PBCs, auditor questions, and review comments through timely resolution
· Translate technical accounting conclusions into journal entries, close procedures, disclosure support, and control activities
· Partner with Financial Reporting on 10-Q, 10-K, standalone financial statement, and disclosure support for complex areas
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
· 3+ years of Big Four public accounting experience, or 5+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience with meaningful technical accounting exposure
· Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to research, document, and support accounting conclusions
· Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, technical memos, and audit-ready documentation
· Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with complex agreements, financial models, valuations, and large data sets
· Ability to work cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Operations, Commercial, external advisors, and auditors
· High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple high-priority matters under tight reporting timelines
Preferred Qualifications
· CPA or active CPA candidate strongly preferred
· Big Four technical accounting, audit, advisory, or transaction accounting experience
· Exposure to stock compensation, fair value, debt and warrants, derivatives, ASC 842 leases, tax equity, consolidations, or impairment analyses
· Experience in energy, renewable power, infrastructure, project finance, or high-growth public-company environments
· Experience with ERP systems, FloQast, Workiva, LeaseQuery, Fidelity or a similar stock-based compensation platform, or other financial reporting tools
· SOX readiness and SEC reporting experience
