Director, Supply Planning & S&OP

Location: United States remote; Franklin, Tennessee preferred

Reports To: Chief Supply Chain Officer


Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Supply Planning & S&OP to lead planning excellence across our growing food and beverage manufacturing network. This leader will be responsible for developing and executing the company's supply planning strategy, managing production scheduling, inventory planning, and supply continuity, while building scalable planning capabilities to support continued growth.


The Director will play a critical leadership role in modernizing planning processes and systems, transitioning the organization from spreadsheet-driven planning to a more integrated ERP-based planning environment utilizing NetSuite and associated planning tools.


This role requires a blend of strategic leadership, operational execution, systems expertise, and cross-functional influence. The ideal candidate has successfully led supply planning organizations within a CPG manufacturing environment and possesses experience implementing advanced planning processes, S&OP disciplines, and ERP-enabled planning capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

Supply Planning Leadership

  • Own the end-to-end supply planning process across manufacturing, procurement, inventory, and customer fulfillment.
  • Develop and maintain rolling supply plans that support customer service, inventory, cost, and capacity objectives.
  • Balance demand requirements with manufacturing capabilities, raw material availability, labor constraints, and inventory strategies.
  • Drive service level performance while optimizing working capital and inventory investment.
  • Establish capacity planning processes supporting short-term execution and long-range growth requirements.
  • Lead risk identification, scenario planning, and supply continuity strategies.

S&OP Leadership

  • Lead the monthly S&OP process, coordinating activities across Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Procurement, and Supply Chain.
  • Facilitate executive decision-making through data-driven recommendations and scenario analysis.
  • Create visibility to key business risks, capacity constraints, inventory concerns, and service opportunities.
  • Establish KPI management processes and drive accountability across functional teams.
  • Develop integrated planning capabilities linking commercial plans, operational plans, and financial results.

Scheduling & Production Planning

  • Direct production scheduling activities across the manufacturing network.
  • Lead and develop the Production Scheduler while evaluating future organizational growth needs.
  • Ensure production schedules maximize asset utilization, labor efficiency, inventory productivity, and customer service.
  • Create clear governance around scheduling priorities, frozen windows, change management, and plant execution.

Planning Systems & Digital Transformation

  • Serve as business owner for planning process modernization initiatives.
  • Lead the transition from spreadsheet-based planning tools toward standardized ERP-driven planning processes within NetSuite.
  • Partner with IT, Operations, Finance, and external consultants to improve system utilization and planning automation.
  • Define business requirements, reporting needs, master data governance, and planning workflows.
  • Champion adoption of system capabilities through training, process documentation, and change management.
  • Evaluate future planning technology enhancements, including demand planning, inventory optimization, and supply planning solutions.

Inventory & Supply Chain Optimization

  • Establish inventory targets and replenishment strategies across raw materials, packaging materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Monitor inventory health and identify opportunities to reduce obsolete inventory and improve turns.
  • Improve planning parameters, safety stock methodologies, lead-time accuracy, and replenishment logic.
  • Develop KPI dashboards and business reviews focused on service, inventory, forecast alignment, and supply performance.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop planning resources.
  • Build a scalable planning organization capable of supporting future growth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision making.
  • Provide mentoring and career development to planning team members.

Requirements

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive supply chain planning experience within manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience leading supply planning, production planning, inventory planning, or S&OP processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Advanced ERP experience and planning systems expertise.
  • Strong communication and executive presentation skills.

Preferred

  • Food, beverage, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or consumer products industry experience.
  • APICS / ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent).
  • Experience implementing or optimizing ERP and planning systems.
  • Experience leading business transformation and change management initiatives.
  • Experience with NetSuite, SAP, Kinaxis, APO, or other advanced planning systems.
