Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Store Manager to lead all operations at our Vernal location. This is an industrial, business-to-business environment serving oil and gas customers throughout the Uinta Basin, not a retail setting. Because the Vernal location runs with a lean team of three, the Store Manager wears multiple hats and carries direct responsibility for the sales counter, the repair shop, the warehouse, and both inside and outside sales. The Store Manager also handles ordering for the location and is the final decision maker on site for day to day operations.
The ideal candidate is a versatile, relationship-driven leader who is comfortable moving between customer facing sales, hands-on repair shop and warehouse oversight, and vendor and ordering responsibilities, all while maintaining strong product knowledge across our oil and gas equipment line. Success in this role depends on building and maintaining strong professional relationships with oilfield customers and vendors.
Work Environment
Work is performed across a sales counter, repair shop, and warehouse environment. The employee will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and will spend time both indoors and outdoors handling inside and outside sales. The volume level is usually quiet to moderate at the sales counter and can be louder in the repair shop and warehouse.
Primary Responsibilities
- Store Operations: Own overall performance of the Vernal location, including the sales counter, repair shop, warehouse, inside sales, and outside sales.
- Sales Generation: Proactively engage with customers to understand their project or equipment needs, upsell products and services, and drive sales performance to goal.
- Inside and Outside Sales: Manage outside sales relationships and calls within the Uinta Basin service area, in addition to handling inside counter sales.
- Repair Shop Oversight: Oversee day to day repair shop workflow, including intake, job tracking, and coordination with technicians to keep turnaround times on track.
- Warehouse Oversight: Oversee warehouse organization, receiving, and inventory accuracy, ensuring product is stocked, staged, and ready for oil and gas customers.
- Ordering: Place and manage vendor orders for the location, working with Purchasing to maintain appropriate stock levels and lead times.
- Facility Presentation: Ensure the sales counter and warehouse present a clean, organized, and professional image for customers and vendors visiting the location.
- Product Knowledge: Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the store's inventory of oil and gas equipment and supplies. Stay informed on new products and industry trends.
- Employee Training and Development: Hire, train, schedule, and develop the store's small team; oversee time clocks and attendance for direct reports.
- Process Development & Cross-Training: Build clear, documented processes for cross-training across sales, repair shop, and warehouse functions given the size of the team.
- Store Organization: Ensure the sales counter, repair shop, and warehouse are clean, organized, and operating safely.
- Sales Performance: Monitor sales trends, margins, and department performance against goals; report results to ownership.
- Safety Compliance: Promote a safe working environment by following all safety protocols, including proper use of equipment and handling of hazardous materials.
- Team Collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact between the Vernal location and company leadership in Flora Vista, communicating regularly on operations, ordering, and staffing.
Store Leadership at the Vernal Location
- As the only manager on site, the Store Manager is the final authority at the sales counter, in the repair shop, and in the warehouse at all times during their shift.
- Customer issues: final say on returns, exchanges, price overrides, discounts, and any complaint an associate cannot resolve.
- Store operations: opening and closing procedures, counter and phone coverage, breaks and lunch coverage, and first point of contact on any POS/Eagle system issue.
- Emergencies: weather, medical, or security situations. The Store Manager is the point person for the store.
- Handoff: provide notes to ownership on anything unresolved at the end of the day or week.
