Position Summary
Reporting to the Automation Manager, the Automation Specialist leads day-to-day operation of automated fulfillment lines, ensuring equipment and production teams run effectively and safely. This role acts as the on-the-floor lead for associates and technicians working on automated lines, providing hands-on support, training, and troubleshooting to keep operations running smoothly.
We are seeking an Automation Specialist to partner closely with the Automation Manager, Automation Maintenance Technicians, and production associates to monitor line performance, resolve day-to-day issues, and escalate significant concerns to leadership. This position plays an important role in keeping automated lines running reliably as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads day-to-day operation of automated fulfillment lines, acting as the on-floor point of contact for production associates and technicians
- Monitors automated systems and equipment performance in real time, identifying and addressing issues as they arise
- Provides hands-on training and ongoing support to associates and technicians working on automated lines
- Partners with Automation Maintenance Technicians to identify and troubleshoot equipment issues during production
- Escalates significant equipment, performance, or safety issues to the Automation Manager
- Runs time trials and gathers line performance data as directed, reporting findings to the Automation Manager
- Tracks and reports KPIs (throughput, cycle time, yield, error rates) to the Automation Manager
- Reinforces adherence to existing SOPs, work instructions, and safety protocols on the production floor
- Supports a culture of accountability and continuous improvement among production teams
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant technical training, certification, or coursework in automation, manufacturing, or a related field is a plus (Preferred)
Licensure/Certification
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Yellow Belt or Green Belt) (Preferred)
- Additional automation or engineering certifications (Preferred)
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience operating, leading, or supporting automated production or fulfillment lines (Preferred)
- Experience training or leading production associates or technicians (Preferred)
- Experience with automated production systems, robotics, or material handling systems (Preferred)
- Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, medical device, or regulated environments (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of automated production workflows and line operations (Required)
- Knowledge of basic performance measurement and data reporting (Required)
- Knowledge of robotics and automated production systems (Preferred)
- Knowledge of pharmacy, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing environments (Preferred)
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills (Required)
- Training, coaching, and team leadership skills (Required)
- Cross-functional communication and collaboration skills (Required)
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-growth environments (Required)
Work Environment
- Location: On-site
- Schedule: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday with night and weekend hours on occasion as determined by the needs of the business and cross-facility travel as needed
- Primarily floor-based role, working directly alongside automated equipment, technicians, and production associates
- Regular coordination with the Automation Manager, Automation Maintenance Technicians, Engineering, and Pharmacy Operations teams
Key Essential Functions
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move around production equipment for extended periods
- Must be able to work safely near moving machinery and follow all required PPE protocols
- Must be able to work on a computer to document line performance and training activities
- Must be able to attend virtual meetings with cross-functional teams
