Position Overview:
Advanced Industrial Mechanical (AIM) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Commercial HVAC Service Technician to join our team. This position is focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing large commercial and industrial HVAC systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience troubleshooting complex HVAC systems and working with large chillers, cooling towers, VRF systems, water-cooled systems, pumps, air-handling equipment, and related mechanical and electrical components.
This is a site-based position. The technician will report to the same location each day and will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and monitoring the HVAC systems at the facility.
The technician must be able to accurately document work performed and create daily, weekly, and monthly service and maintenance reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and Repair Large Commercial HVAC Systems: Diagnose and repair commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including systems up to 400 tons, chillers, VRF systems, water-cooled systems, and associated equipment.
- Chiller Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on screw chillers and other large commercial chillers, including mechanical and electrical components.
- ERV Troubleshooting: Diagnose, maintain, and repair Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) systems to ensure proper operation and energy efficiency.
- VRF Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and repair Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems and related controls and components.
- Airflow & Ductwork Evaluation: Conduct detailed airflow evaluations and inspect ductwork systems. Identify deficiencies and make recommendations to improve system performance and efficiency.
- Cooling Tower Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on large commercial cooling towers and associated components.
- Water-Cooled System Diagnostics: Diagnose and repair water-cooled HVAC systems, including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, valves, and related components.
- Pump Maintenance & Alignment: Perform pump maintenance, alignment, replacement, and troubleshooting to ensure proper system operation.
- Blower Shaft & Bearing Replacement: Perform repairs and replacement of blower shafts, bearings, and other major air-handling components.
- Low-Temperature Refrigeration: Troubleshoot and repair low-temperature refrigeration systems while following all applicable safety and environmental requirements.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to identify potential issues before they result in equipment failure or costly repairs.
- Electrical & Controls Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical, control, and operational issues associated with commercial HVAC equipment.
- System Monitoring: Monitor HVAC equipment and system performance, identify abnormal operating conditions, and take appropriate corrective action.
- Documentation & Reporting: Complete accurate service records, maintenance documentation, equipment logs, and daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Customer Communication: Communicate professionally with customers and facility personnel regarding equipment conditions, repairs, recommendations, and system performance.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable industry standards.
Performance Expectations:
· Maintain an 85%+ efficiency rate on service calls and assigned tasks.
· Complete preventative maintenance and repair work accurately and within established timeframes.
· Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
· Properly document all work performed and maintain accurate equipment and service records.
· Communicate technical issues and recommend solutions clearly and professionally.
· Identify potential equipment issues and recommend corrective action before failures occur whenever possible.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
· Work independently while demonstrating strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- 7+ years of experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of large commercial HVAC systems (including chillers, VRF, cooling towers, etc.)
- EPA Universal Certification for refrigerant handling.
- Strong background in cooling tower maintenance, pump alignment, and low-temperature refrigeration systems.
- Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and technical manuals for HVAC systems.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills in systems such as water-cooled systems, ERVs, and VRF systems.
- Excellent communication skills for effective customer interactions and team collaboration.
- Clean driving record and the ability to operate a company vehicle.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 80 lbs) and work in a variety of physical conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NATE Senior-Level Certification (Preferred).
- Advanced Refrigeration Certification (Preferred).
- Chiller-Specific Certification (Preferred).
- BAS Training (Preferred) for troubleshooting and integrating building automation systems with HVAC equipment.
