POSITION SUMMARY

 The Corporate Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the month-end close process, with a primary focus on the asset side of the balance sheet. This position manages cash accounting, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable-related accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany transactions, billbacks, and revenue support activities. The Corporate Accountant partners with operational and accounting teams to ensure financial accuracy, compliance with company policies, and timely reporting. 


This position reports to the Assistant Corporate Controller and is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Accounting responsibilities:

Cash Management and Treasury Support

  • Manage daily cash accounting activities for multiple bank accounts.
  • Record and reconcile corporate deposits, including GL coding and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving outstanding items timely.
  • Monitor cash activity and support intercompany cash tracking and settlement processes.
  • Coordinate check deposits, banking uploads, positive pay files, and related treasury activities.

Asset and Balance Sheet Accounting

  • Prepare and maintain assigned balance sheet reconciliations with a primary focus on asset accounts.
  • Analyze account activity to identify discrepancies, unusual transactions, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain supporting schedules for cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, deposits, fixed assets, and other assigned asset accounts.
  • Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and in accordance with monthly close deadlines.

General Ledger and Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Review financial transactions for proper accounting treatment and compliance with company policies.
  • Support intercompany accounting and reconciliation activities.

Financial Operations

  • Assist with community billback processing, including preparation, review, and accounting uploads.
  • Prepare and review intercompany files and supporting documentation.
  • Support state and local sales tax filing processes as assigned.
  • Participate in special projects, system implementations, and process improvement initiatives.

Audit and Compliance

  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Assist with requests from auditors and management.
  • Maintain organized documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
Requirements

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

Education:

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

Experience

  • 1-3 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
  • Corporate accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and month-end close processes required.
  • Experience with property management or real estate accounting is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Yardi or similar accounting systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
  • Office location: Scottsdale, AZ.
  • Additional hours may be required during month-end close and audit periods.
