Proxsys Rx is currently recruiting for the position of The Director of Pharmacy at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. The Director of Pharmacy is responsible and accountable on a 24-hour basis for the management and supervision of pharmaceutical services within SMRMC. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, and directs policies and procedures governing pharmaceutical services;
  • Implements the decisions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee;
  • Assumes responsibility for the operation of the Pharmaceutical Department in accordance with national standards, regulatory compliance, and legal regulations;
  • Responsible for the integration of the pharmacy department into the primary functions of the organization;
  • Coordinates and integrates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services;
  • Develops and implements of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of pharmacy services;
  • Continuously assesses and improves the quality of care and services provided;
  • Maintains quality control programs;
  • Provides orientation and continuing education for all personnel in the pharmacy department;
  • Makes recommendations for space, equipment, and other resources needed by the pharmacy department;
  • Responsible for annual budgeting; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Staff Pharmacist, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician I Unit-dose, Pharmacy Technician II Intravenous, and Pharmacy Technician Ill Purchasing in accordance with company policies and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

Networks - Develops and maintains contact with related health care professionals, peers, medical staff, and state associations to obtain information and support. Attends scheduled meetings; sends professional

correspondence as a follow-up to meetings, seminars, and off-site programs.

Plans - Compiles data and research information to define long-range goals and priorities for improving organizational performance. Initiates planned change related to collected information and regulatory guidelines.

Organizes - Researches impact of planned changes, prioritizes projects and activities, and meets established deadlines. Uses formal and informal knowledge of organization's culture and leadership to gain project acceptance.

Supports Staff - Maintains approachable and friendly demeanor. Shows sympathy and support when staff is upset or verbalizing complaint. Assists staff with problem solving and resolution. Protects staff confidentiality and privacy.

Manages Conflict - Fosters sense of team building and conflict resolution. Manages boundary, role conflicts between staff, physicians, and administration.

Recognizes/Rewards Confidence - Recognizes exceptional performance or effort by verbal praise and/or written follow-up to employee's manager or receive performance recognition through the Meal Ticket Program.

Motivates - Gains enthusiasm and commitment for necessary changes or project development by using professional influence and credibility to appeal to the emotions, value, and logic of the staff, physicians, and administration.

Solves Problems - Analyzes problems and potential risks associated with system and process changes. Uses systematic approach to determine root causes of conflict and difficult issues. Determines most prudent solution and implements after administrative approval. Ability to remain emotionally self-controlled, observant, and deliberate during a crisis.

Delegates - Allows staff to work independently and solve problems. Solicits participation in decision making and change. Unless deemed necessary, does not make forced changes affecting staff without allowing an opportunity for explanation and discussion.

Monitors Operations/Controls Costs - Collects information regarding staffing levels, performance, and productivity. Ensures appropriate staffing levels and validated competencies. Compiles data related to quality of service and customer satisfaction. Uses information to recommend needed resources and space to enhance delivery of product or service. Meets deadlines for projects, services, or activities.

Clarifies Role and Objectives - Uses consistent and professionally relevant standards of practice to oversee the development/revision of the employee job descriptions, competencies, and orientation process. Uses these job-related performance tools to communicate job responsibilities, policies and procedures, performance expectations, and staff directions/assignments. Uses job related performance tools to promote employee growth.

Practices Professionalism - Demonstrates emotional self-control at all times. Addresses all issues using appropriate chain-of-command and with involved individual. Offers and accepts constructive criticism without becoming defensive or precipitating defensive behaviors in others. Greets others with a smile; does not complain to customers. Practices Infection Control - Adheres to infection control Policies & Procedures at all times. Demonstrates knowledge of department specific PPE and location of all handwashing facilities available on each unit.

Practices Safety Management - Adheres to hospital and departmental specific safety and risk management Policy and Procedures. Participates in all risk management drills per departmental plan. Reports safety and environmental hazards at all times. If threat to safety is present, notifies appropriate department and takes action to prevent injury. Participates in disaster management as instructed per organizational Disaster Plan.

Promotes Awareness of Age Care - Coordinates pharmaceutical care based on age-specific developmental needs.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD and 5+ years’ related experience required, management experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations – Current licenses in good standing to practice pharmacy in the appropriate state, Controlled Substance license and Immunization certification may also be required.

Language Ability – Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Able to speak effectively to customers or other members of the organization. A high level of independence to lead and influence others.

Mathematical Ability - Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability - Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Knowledge of data analysis, workflow charting and other analysis techniques. Skill in focusing on desired results, determining what is important and urgent, clarifying next steps, and delegating effectively to meet deadlines and achieve desired results

Computer Skills - Working knowledge and experience with pharmacy software. Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
