The Vessel Service Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing vessel service operations, including field service projects, repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and installations of ABEC and customer equipment. This role provides technical leadership, project coordination, and personnel management for Vessel Service Technicians while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, ASME, PED, and customer requirements. The Vessel Service Manager serves as the primary point of contact for customers, internal stakeholders, and Authorized Inspectors, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of Vessel Service Technicians and Field Technicians.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage vessel service projects from initiation through completion.
- Serve as the primary liaison between customers, Vessel Service Technicians, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and ASME Authorized Inspectors.
- Provide leadership and direction during onsite service activities, repairs, inspections, and installations.
- Ensure compliance with all ASME Code, PED, NBIC, and company quality requirements.
- Coordinate project schedules, manpower allocation, equipment requirements, and travel logistics.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular status updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Oversee tool, equipment, and material inventory, including shipment and return coordination.
- Support field execution through hands-on involvement when required.
- Review/interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure proper project execution.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with customer safety procedures and ABEC safety standards.
- Conduct safety meetings, job hazard assessments, and promote a strong safety culture.
- Assist with confined space, welding, and technical training initiatives for field personnel.
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices to improve operational efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Support startup activities, equipment installations, and vessel commissioning efforts.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, service reports, and quality records.
- Represent ABEC professionally while fostering strong customer relationships.
- Will play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunity
- Execute additional duties and special projects assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree or technical certification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in vessel fabrication, field service, manufacturing, or industrial equipment maintenance.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing technicians or service teams preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ASME Code, PED, NBIC requirements, welding fabrication, and inspection processes.
- Experience with vessel repair, welding, grinding, NDT, and liquid dye penetrant inspection methods.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proven ability to lead teams in both manufacturing and customer site environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project documentation systems.
- Valid driver's license and passport required.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 80%, including overnight and extended stays.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. (23 kg).
- Ability to work in manufacturing environments, customer facilities, confined spaces, and field service conditions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical activities associated with industrial service work.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASME welding certifications or equivalent industry certifications.
- Experience coordinating field service projects in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or process equipment industries.
- Knowledge of pressure vessel manufacturing, repair, and inspection practices.
- Experience managing multiple projects and service teams simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to develop employees, improve processes, and drive operational excellence. Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) a plus.
- Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus
