HOURS & SALARY: Full-time, 38 hours per week, with a pay range of $15.63 – $23.45 per hour depending on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Services Assistant provides front-line customer service to library patrons in person and by phone, especially youth from birth to 18 years of age, and their caregivers. The employee in this position works with division coworkers, the Youth Services Manager, and the Youth Services Assistant Manager as a team to implement the library’s mission, strategic priorities, and literacy goals for this age group.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide welcoming, responsive customer service to children, teens, and caregivers while maintaining patron confidentiality in accordance with Wyoming law.

2. Assist patrons by conducting reference interviews, providing readers’ advisory and directional information, and teaching the use of library computers, databases, and other resources.

3. Rove throughout youth areas to identify and respond to patrons at their point of need.

4. Prepare children’s and teen areas for daily service and follow established opening and closing procedures.

5. Develop and maintain knowledge of children’s and teen collections and the early literacy components of educational installations, including the Early Literacy Center and My Library Place.

6. Support collection development and weeding by identifying collection needs and sharing relevant patron comments and suggestions.

7. Assist and support coworkers who develop, plan, prepare and deliver library programs and events for children and teens.

8. Monitor patron behavior and respond appropriately in accordance with the Library Rules.

9. Perform other duties as assigned, including working at public service points.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma plus six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Proficiency with a variety of software programs and systems related to the operations of the library including word processing, internet, scheduling/calendaring/email, integrated library systems, and operating systems.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

• Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write the English language.

WORK SCHEDULE 

Work schedules are predominantly office hours but will also include evenings and weekends. Employees must be available to work anytime the library is open.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The essential duties and responsibilities of this job require the employee to move or manipulate moderately heavy equipment, boxes, carts, files, and stacks of material from one location to another.
