Ophelia Tavern & Bar Top are coming to The Dale in Avondale Estates, and we're building a dependable and talented Back of House Opening Team.
Ophelia Tavern will be a refined neighborhood gathering place serving Italian-inspired comfort food in a welcoming, no-fuss atmosphere. The menu features pizzas crisped in 600-degree ovens, fresh pastas tossed in scratch-made sauces, juicy house-ground burgers, thoughtfully prepared entrées and salads, and plenty of small plates made for sharing.
Located upstairs, Bar Top features a spacious covered rooftop patio overlooking the Town Green, a cozy indoor bar, fireplace, and private event space. Its food program will feature light bites alongside classic cocktails, creative mocktails, local beers, and curated wines.
Behind every great service is a strong prep team. We're looking for organized, dependable, and quality-focused Prep Cooks who understand that consistency begins long before the first guest walks through the door.
What We're Looking For
- Previous restaurant prep or kitchen experience preferred
- Experience with scratch food preparation is a plus
- Strong basic knife skills
- Ability to accurately follow recipes and prep specifications
- Understanding of proper measuring, portioning, and food handling
- Clean and organized work habits
- Ability to work efficiently and independently
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of proper food storage, labeling, dating, and rotation
- Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation
- Ability to safely lift and move restaurant products and supplies
- Dependable and punctual
- Team-first attitude
- Ability to prioritize prep based on kitchen needs
- Flexible availability based on prep, restaurant, and event schedules
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients according to company recipes and specifications
- Wash, cut, chop, slice, portion, and properly store ingredients
- Prepare sauces, dressings, vegetables, proteins, garnishes, and other menu components as assigned
- Assist with preparation related to pizzas, pastas, entrées, salads, appetizers, and small plates
- Follow recipes accurately and maintain consistent quality
- Properly weigh, measure, and portion products
- Label, date, rotate, and store all prepared products
- Follow FIFO procedures
- Maintain proper food temperatures
- Follow all sanitation and food safety requirements
- Maintain a clean and organized prep area
- Properly clean and sanitize equipment and work surfaces
- Communicate prep levels, shortages, and product concerns to kitchen leadership
- Minimize waste and properly handle restaurant products
- Assist with receiving and properly storing deliveries
- Maintain organization of walk-ins, coolers, dry storage, and prep areas
- Assist Line Cooks and other BOH team members as needed
- Prepare products needed for Bar Top, private events, and special functions
- Complete assigned opening and closing responsibilities

- Minimize unnecessary waste
- Respect ingredients, equipment, and fellow team members
- Take pride in producing consistent, quality work every day
Supporting Ophelia Tavern, Bar Top & Private Events
Our prep kitchen will support more than one dining experience.
In addition to preparing food for Ophelia Tavern's full-service restaurant, our BOH team will support Bar Top's rooftop food program and the private event space located upstairs.
Private events may include celebrations, corporate gatherings, social functions, and other special occasions, creating additional and varied food preparation needs.
Prep Cooks should be comfortable adjusting priorities based on restaurant volume, event schedules, and the needs of the culinary team.
Schedule & Availability
Our anticipated operating schedule is:
Monday – Friday: Approximately 4:00 PM until Close
Saturday & Sunday: Potentially 11:00 AM until Close
Tentative Closing Time: Approximately 10:00 PM
Prep shifts may begin significantly earlier than restaurant opening hours based on production needs, deliveries, events, and business volume. Applicants should have flexible availability for weekday and weekend prep shifts, holidays, training, and special events.
Operating hours and schedules are tentative and may change based on business needs.
