The required essential duties of the Head Basketball Coach are as follows: Coaching at practices, coaching at games, and working individually with student athletes. These duties constitute 95% of the coach’s responsibility. The Head Coach is responsible for supervising assistant coach(es) volunteers and managers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Performs components of the sports program to include teaching sports specific fundamentals and strategies to student athletes.
- Responsible for the daily operation of teh basketball program to include budget management.
- Indentifies and recruits academically qualified student athletes and reinforces student athletes' goal to graduate.
- Actively supports the endeavors and advancements of Stephens Athletics Department.
- Operates within the guidelines of Stephens College, AMC, and NAIA Rules and Regulations.
- Coordinates scheduling and travel arrangements for team travel and recruiting.
- Promote the academic and athletic well-being of student athletes.
- Develop and maintain quality relationships within the community both on and off campus.

- An ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of media, administrators, faculty, staff, students, public groups and/or Board of Trustees.
- Requires the ability to use computers for data entry
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited four-year college or university required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated a minimum of three (3) years of successful coaching experience with NAIA or NCAA preferred.
- Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport
- Knowledge of and commitment to NAIA rules and regulations.
- The ability to organize and motivate the student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievement.
- Proven experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-athletes
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, AMC and NAIA athletics preferred
- Obtain and/or maintain a Missouri Class E driver’s license and ability to meet university’s insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required
- Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire and will be required prior to coaching student-athletes.
Position requires extensive internal face to face contact, telephone, email, mailing and other mediums of dialogue with university personnel. Significant interaction faculty, staff and students on a daily basis; work extensively with other departments on campus.
