As a Generator Systems Specialist – Engine & Mechanical, you will serve as the technical expert responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical and engine-related issues on natural gas-powered generators. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality, you will perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and product validation to ensure our generators meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and quality. Your expertise will directly influence product improvements, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This role falls under the Factory Readiness Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of natural gas-powered generators with a primary focus on engine, fuel, cooling, lubrication, and mechanical systems.
- Diagnose complex engine performance issues using mechanical inspection techniques, electronic service tools, and data analysis.
- Troubleshoot fuel delivery systems, ignition systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, emissions equipment, and engine accessories.
- Perform root cause analysis on mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to improve product reliability and manufacturability.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) by resolving engine and mechanical issues identified during testing.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to investigate recurring field and production issues.
- Interpret engine performance data, emissions data, fault logs, and operational trends to identify abnormal conditions.
- Verify repairs through functional testing, performance validation, and documented troubleshooting procedures.
- Document findings, corrective actions, and recommendations within the company's quality management system.
- Assist in developing troubleshooting guides, service procedures, and best practices for production and field service personnel.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to technicians during complex diagnostic activities.
- Participate in design reviews by providing serviceability and reliability feedback based on production and field experience.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on product reliability, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Associate's degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline desired but not required.
- Equivalent military or industry experience will also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience troubleshooting industrial engines, generators, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of natural gas or diesel engine operation and diagnostics.
- Experience troubleshooting fuel, cooling, lubrication, ignition, emissions, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, engine documentation, and electrical schematics as required for diagnostics.
- Experience using diagnostic software, engine service tools, and electronic service manuals.
- Strong understanding of mechanical measurement tools including pressure gauges, compression testers, leak-down testers, and thermal imaging equipment.
- Excellent root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to documentation quality.

- Possess a strong passion for solving complex electromechanical and software problems in a fast paced, dynamic production environment.
- Demonstrate a creative approach to engineering challenges, with a proven ability to think outside the box to optimize test pad operations.
- Have a track record of successfully directing and mentoring technicians and junior engineers during intense testing activities.
- Are a highly collaborative team player who can bridge the gap between design engineering, quality assurance, and manufacturing floor operations.
