SUMMARY
The City of Edgewater is seeking a full-time Assistant Police Records Clerk. Edgewater is a progressive city of approximately 5,500 residents nestled between the cities of Denver, Wheat Ridge, and Lakewood. The Assistant Records Clerk is responsible for assisting the daily operations of the Edgewater Police Department’s records section and maintaining complete reference records for the Edgewater Police Department.
Once trained, employees must be able to perform with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Work is required outside of regular business hours and includes evenings and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
· Performing complex secretarial and routine administrative work in support of the Edgewater Police Department. This includes composing and typing original correspondence, screening calls, scheduling appointments, and performing other administrative and reporting duties as required.
· Understanding and interpreting open records laws (CORA and others as needed).
· Working with officers, detectives, property section and the District Attorney’s Office to ensure that all e-discovery data is complete and timely.
· Receiving, reading, classifying, coding, and filing accident, crime, and non-criminal reports.
· Running various computer-generated reports as needed.
· Maintaining a variety of files, including computer database, reports summonses, and related data received from officers and the municipal court.
· Processing all incoming paperwork from other departments. Separating copies and distributing completed paperwork to proper agencies. Verifying completeness of information proper to distribution.
· Responding to records requests from other agencies, courts, and the general-public.
· Performing non-emergency telephone and walk-in receptionist duties: screening callers and visitors, handling any questions or problems of a less technical nature and referring more complex inquiries or problems to appropriate staff.
· Supporting team members in their area of responsibility as needed.
· Participating in staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
· Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
· Communicating effectively, both in writing and orally, to convey the philosophy and mission of the City to citizens, employees, other jurisdictions, and peers.
· Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Police.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
1) Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
2) Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record.
3) Submit and pass a CIJIS compliance pre-employment background check including but not limited to a polygraph test, psychological suitability exam and drug screen.
4) Strong knowledge of computer-based technology. Familiarity with NIBRS RMS, preferred.
5) Background in working with sensitive records, preferred.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma
· Experience in secure records management preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
· Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED Certification.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the operation of a personal computer along with basic Microsoft Office Suite 365.
· Use of telephone, calculator, fax machine, and photocopier.
· Outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills, to maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, appointing authorities, department heads, appointed boards, employees, and volunteers.
· Ability to work independently.
· Spanish language skills preferred.

· Ability to participate in and respond to routine conversation in person or via telephone, and distinguish telephone, printers, computers, and other auditory tones.
