Job Description:

Transports children to and from school and other activities, as needed. In between routes, remains in the classroom and supports the classroom team with various duties.


Pay: $23.83/hr.

Requirements

Required:

• Must be able to successfully complete employer-provided training and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with both Passenger and School Bus endorsements within two months of employment if a valid CDL with the required endorsements is not currently held.

• Acceptable driving recorded based on Motor Vehicle Report prior to employment.

• Knowledge of mechanical operation of a vehicle to include daily maintenance checks.

• Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 50 pounds.

• Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications within 90-days of employment.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, TB test, drug test (including marijuana), and background check in accordance with the Office of Head Start Performance Standards and Childcare Licensing. (Physical examination and TB test thereafter as required).

• Must have access to reliable transportation and if using a personal vehicle must maintain minimum liability insurance as determined by the State of Colorado.


Preferred:

• Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B or C with school bus and passenger endorsement prior to date of employment.

• Experience in driving a school bus and working with pre-school age or elementary school age children.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs daily pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles to comply with all rules of US Department of Transportation, Colorado Department of Education and CPCD policies and procedures.

2. Performs all emergency functions, including evacuations.

3. Responsible for driving CPCD buses for transporting children.

4. Provides directions regarding safe behavior to students as needed.

5. Responsible for student management and maintaining discipline on the bus.

6. Performs administrative responsibilities including creating seating charts, documenting student information, pre/post trip logs, maintaining records, monthly reports, etc.

7. Regularly fuels and cleans transportation vehicles.

8. Uses two-way radio to communicate with other department staff.

9. Participates in regular training, including the annual training in the fall.

10. Drives assigned route in a safe and timely fashion.

11. Develops proactive communication with parents and families. Helps to promote parent involvement in CPCD programs.

12. Works with classroom team to maintain a safe and positive learning environment on the bus and in the classroom.

13. Supports classroom team with various duties while in the classroom.


OTHER DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Other duties as assigned.
