Assistant Product Manager

Position Overview

The Assistant Product Manager supports the management of assigned product categories by assisting with purchasing coordination, inventory planning, pricing support, vendor communication, and product lifecycle activities. Working under the direction of a Senior Product Manager, Product Manager, or General Manager, this role develops the knowledge and experience necessary to assume future product management responsibilities while supporting profitable growth, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions

  •   Assist with the management of assigned product categories by supporting purchasing, inventory planning, and product maintenance activities.
  •   Maintain accurate product costs, item records, and purchasing information within company systems to support inventory accuracy and purchase order integrity.
  •   Monitor inventory levels, demand trends, and lead times, providing purchasing recommendations to Product Management.
  •   Support pricing updates and product information maintenance to ensure accurate system pricing and product data.
  •   Monitor market conditions, product availability, freight considerations, and competitive activity, communicating relevant information to Product Management.
  •   Analyze inventory, sales, and product performance data to identify trends and support category planning.
  •   Coordinate with Sales and Operations to support product availability, customer requirements, and inventory replenishment.
  •   Assist with vendor communications, purchase order follow-up, and supplier performance activities under the direction of Product Management.
  •   Support new product introductions, promotional initiatives, merchandising activities, and product lifecycle transitions.
  •   Participate in vendor meetings, product training, and industry events to develop product knowledge and strengthen vendor relationships.
  •   Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support IWP's Vision, advance its Mission, and uphold the Organization's Values.


Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  •   Associate's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  •  Minimum one (1) year of experience in purchasing, inventory control, inside sales, operations, customer service, or the building materials industry.
  •   Working knowledge of purchasing, inventory management, or product support functions preferred.
  •   Developing analytical and problem-solving skills.
  •   Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  •   Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  •   Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ERP or inventory management systems.
