We are looking for an Operations Support Technician to join our Team. This position is primarily responsible for assisting with fulfilling and/or researching open orders and for supporting logistical and production operations for Merits Pilot Stairlift custom orders. This role also assists with inventory maintenance and helps ensure operations run smoothly by communicating and collaborating with other team members. 


The Ops Tech is a full-time, entry-level role based out of our Gulf Logistics Pilot Facility, near RSW. Regular working hours are typically 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Work schedules may sometimes vary depending upon the production schedule. Worked hours over 40 in a given work week results in overtime, as per FLSA. Candidates should offer flexibility with schedules from 7am through 5pm with the occasional Saturday if needed. In turn, the company will reciprocate. The hourly pay range is dependent upon experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to compile information, investigate, and / or confirm accuracy of orders, products, and parts.
  • Prepare and clean parts using sandblasting, degreasing, or chemical pretreatment per specifications.
  • Apply powder coating using electrostatic spray guns per established specifications, ensuring even coverage and optimal adhesion.
  • Document inspection results for quality control and applicable regulatory compliance.
  • Perform visual and thickness inspections for coating consistency and quality.
  • Inspect, maintain, and clean spray booths, guns, and curing ovens to prevent contamination.
  • Safely measure and cut steel tubes at correct specifications. 
  • Maintain equipment daily and ensure preventative maintenance is completed to ensure working conditions that do not compromise safety or quality.
  • Assist in fit and finish operations for stairlifts along with outbound packaging process.
  • Assist leadership with coordinating and/or communicating operational activities.
  • Assist with generate and recommending orders to the logistics department and following up on PO’s.
  • Maintain and communicate back-order status to the Sale department and leadership team members as needed.
  • Collaborate with warehouse/logistics teams and assist with order preparation including, but not limited to, printing shipping labels. 
  • Communicate the information and assist applicable team members with order status updates and order processing via company email, phone, chat, in person, etc.
  • Execute communications within the organization at the highest level of accuracy.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, and products, which includes but is not limited to cycle counts, spot/internal audits, and annual inventory.
  • Complete orders and accurately enter data in ERP system.
  • Book and schedule inbound freight.
  • Local business travel as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent with one (1) year of related manufacturing / production, logistics, and/or warehouse experience is required; or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training may be considered. Computer proficiency is required in order to navigate the company's ERP system, email, and other applications used regularly. Reliable transportation to support full-time regular work is required.


Candidates must have basic math and measurement skills. Experience with sandblasting and powder coating duties is preferred but not required, providing the willingness and ability to learn is evident. Candidates must have experience and skills with using electrical /manual tools and be able to read/interpret technical documents or drawings and tape measures. Standard forklift experience is helpful.

  • Must have the ability to color match.
  • Must understand sandblasting operations and prep work for powder coating. 
  • Must have knowledge of surface preparations and coating applications techniques and must be able to apply texture techniques.
  • Must have basic math and measurement skills (i.e. correctly reading a tape measure, quart, gallon, etc.).
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Must have knowledge of relative safety standards and must be able to actively use protective PPE.
  • Must have exceptional attention to detail and have excellent problem solving / trouble shooting skills.
  • Must have experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
  • Must be willing and able to quickly learn basic powder coating and sandblasting techniques and safety standards.
  • Must be willing and able to learn advanced techniques related to position.
  • Must be able to successfully complete Merits s Forklift Driver Training & Safety Course / Certification within the first 30 days of hire date or position acceptance. 
  • Must have strong work ethic and hold an excellent attendance record.
  • Must have strong skills with MS Office products including Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Must have recent skills and experience working with ERP systems (such as NetSuite, Epicor, or similar).
  • Must have excellent organizational and detail orientated skills.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have manual dexterity, be in good physical condition, have demonstrated physical strength, and have good balance for safety purposes and for extended periods of standing while working in a production/warehouse environment.
  • Must have a willingness to work overtime, arrive early, and/or stay late according to business / project needs.
  • Must be dependable and hold an excellent attendance record. 
  • Must speak, read, and write English and have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time, but also will be required to sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb/climb ladders or balance; use of both hands to handle, grab or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; required to talk and hear; active use of computer/electronic devices. The employee is required to safely lift or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: The work environment is primarily in a warehousing / manufacturing / welding production operations environment where the employee may need to work near moving mechanical parts. In these environments, the noise levels may often be moderate to loud; ambient climate temperatures to humid and hot (depending on season), dry, dusty to moderately clean. Employees will be required to use and/or wear safety equipment / PPE, which will be provided to the employee by the company. Employees must be able to stand for extended periods of time, in ambient climate temperatures to humid and hot.
