Location: Urbana, Ohio (On-site)
Company: Johnson Welded Products – a Tramec Company
Make an impact where it matters most — protecting people, improving processes, and driving a culture of safety and sustainability.
About the Role
Johnson Welded Products is seeking a hands-on Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and strengthen our safety and environmental programs. In this role, you'll be both a strategic partner and a visible floor presence — ensuring compliance, improving training and engagement, and empowering our people to work safely and sustainably every day. The schedule is Monday–Friday, with occasional flexibility needed for meetings and training since we run multiple shifts.
We're looking for someone who leads through relationships, not just requirements. You'll partner closely with HR, Operations, and shift supervisors, so the right person builds trust and buy-in before rolling out new programs or processes — communicating clearly and respectfully with everyone from floor employees to senior leadership, and genuinely enjoying the collaborative, cross-functional side of the work. This is a team role that calls for a mentorship mentality: someone who coaches and listens as much as they direct, and who sees safety as something built together with the people doing the work.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and continuously improve EHS programs that reduce risk, enhance safety culture, and support business goals.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.), including reporting and documentation.
- Conduct facility assessments, hazard analyses, and root-cause investigations, and drive corrective actions.
- Develop, deliver, and track training for employees and leaders on all aspects of EHS.
- Prepare and manage ISO 14001 documentation and environmental reporting.
- Act as site liaison for external regulatory audits, inspections, and permits.
- Guide emergency response planning and lead investigations of incidents and near misses.
- Mentor, coach, and influence plant leaders and associates to take ownership of EHS performance.
- Train new hires during orientation and conduct ongoing training thereafter.
- Be on-site in Urbana, Ohio supporting multiple shifts.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, engage teams, and drive accountability.
- Ability to work with all level of employees across the organization.
- Excellent problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM, or REM a plus.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and environmental reporting highly valued.
