Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records across Pinnacle Trailer Sales' diverse revenue streams, including trailer sales, rental and leasing contracts, parts inventory, and service department billing, while supporting month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's accounting operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintains the general ledger and ensures transactions are properly classified across sales, rental/leasing, parts, and service departments.
- Assists in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules for management review.
- Processes and monitors accounts receivable related to rental/lease billing, retail trailer sales, parts sales, and service invoices.
- Manages accounts payable including vendor invoices, floor plan financing payments, and expense processing.
- Sets up and maintains trailer financing notes, including scheduled payments and payoffs.
- Reconciles customer accounts and follows up on past-due balances in coordination with sales and rental staff.
- Reconciles new and used trailer inventory, including floor plan financing balances, to the general ledger.
- Tracks parts inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, and periodic physical inventory counts.
- Maintains fixed asset and rental/lease fleet schedules, including depreciation, additions, and disposals.
- Reconciles rental and lease revenue, billing schedules, and customer deposits; tracks lease-end residual values, buyouts, and contract terminations.
- Supports accounting for equipment transferred between rental fleet and retail sale inventory.
- Prepares and files sales, use, and other applicable state and local tax returns related to trailer sales, leasing, parts, and service transactions.
- Prepares departmental profitability reports for sales, rental/leasing, parts, and service departments for management review.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 2+ years of accounting experience required; experience in a dealership, equipment rental/leasing, or transportation-related industry strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills required.
- Experience with accounting or dealership management software (DIS, Karmak, or similar) preferred.
- Familiarity with sales/use tax compliance and multi-state filing a plus.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and perform repetitive typing; occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, and lift or carry objects up to 25–30 lbs (e.g., files, supplies, or equipment).
- Work Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional visits to the sales lot, service shop, or rental yard as needed to verify inventory or equipment records. Standard indoor office setting with moderate noise levels and controlled temperature.
