We were founded in August of 2015 by a nuclear engineer, a building technology guru and a lifelong salesman who had a vision to advance the built environment to improve the lives of others. What you’ll do:

As one of our Senior Software Engineers, you’ll play a critical role in part of our team structure. You will help to make what matters most to our customers and users of AkitaBox when it is needed most. 

• Architect and lead the development of scalable solutions, making high-level technical decisions
• Translate business needs into robust technical requirements and epic plans
• Implement scalable, secure, low-latency and highly available web applications and APIs
• Design, build, debug, and maintain efficient, reusable, reliable, and readable code
• Execute full software development lifecycle
• Leverage AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate the software development life cycle while applying rigorous verification to ensure code quality and prevent 'AI slop'
• Follow industry standards in securing applications and data
• Perform validation and verification testing
• Write automated integration and unit tests
• Perform code reviews and offer constructive feedback
• Document and maintain software functionality
• Balance completed tasks vs implementing a perfect/elegant solution
• Participate in and help evolve our agile processes and sprint planning to improve team velocity and quality
• Elevate the team with creative and critical thinking
• Mentor and guide the broader team to elevate collective technical capabilities

Requirements

Candidates who not only understand what it takes to be a software engineer but to also work together as a team to develop creative solutions. 

• 5+ years of experience in SaaS development, with a track record of successfully designing, building, and maintaining products in production
• Expert-level proficiency in the full stack (TypeScript, React, Node.js, NestJS, Prisma) and object-oriented design; openness to similar modern frameworks is welcome
• Proven ability in AI-assisted development, specifically managing AI harnesses, optimizing prompts, and maintaining code quality while detecting and remediating 'AI slop'
• Strong grasp of modern engineering fundamentals, including automated testing (unit/integration), CI/CD pipelines, Git/GitHub, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/containers)
• Self-driven and communicative professional with excellent creative problem-solving skills, adept at thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative team

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience designing, developing, deploying, observing, and maintaining:
  • Native applications, especially with Flutter
  • Relational database and schema to third normal form
  • Analytical data pipelines and star schema, especially with dbt and Snowflake
  • AWS infrastructure, especially with Terraform
• Solid understanding of UI/UX best practices and design systems (e.g., Material Design), with a strong eye for visual hierarchy and consistent spacing
