Role Summary

To curate the parish “Narrative Engine” through high-quality print, digital, and visual media. This role ensures our brand reflects purposeful excellence, tells our community's story authentically, and guarantees that no parishioner or school family feels left in a communication black hole.


Key Responsibilities

Printed Narrative: The Weekly Bulletin

  • Design a visually engaging, 8–12 page weekly bulletin that prioritizes high-quality photography and mission-driven storytelling over text-heavy lists.
  • Coordinate with staff and ministry leads to ensure all content is submitted by the Tuesday noon cutoff.
  • Manage the relationship with the print vendor and ensure the final file is uploaded and error-free by the weekly deadline.

Digital Outreach: The Weekly Connect Email

  • Transform weekly parish priorities into a mobile-friendly Weekly Connect Email featuring clear, actionable next steps.
  • Maintain and update the parish website (stmkc.com) to ensure information is accurate, navigation is intuitive, and events are current.
  • Manage and execute the parish social media strategy (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), creating consistent, engaging content that highlights active parish life.
  • Update digital displays and signage in the Narthex to align with weekly focus areas.

Media & Event Coverage: Photography & Videography

  • Coordinate and manage photo and video coverage for major parish/school liturgies, sacraments, and events (leveraging volunteer photographers or capturing content directly when needed).
  • Organize and maintain a central media library of photos and video footage for use across print, web, and social channels.

Strategic Alignment & Collaboration

  • Weekly Meetings & Strategy: Attend weekly parish staff meetings to stay aligned with parish operations, calendar planning, and upcoming initiatives. Meet weekly with the Director of Mission to define the “Main Message.”
  • Stewardship & Operations Support: Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations on messaging, design, and multi-channel strategy for annual stewardship appeals and financial communications.
  • School & Parish Alignment: Partner with the school leadership and communications team to ensure consistent branding, messaging, and seamless cross-promotion between parish and school initiatives.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Proficiency with Canva, website content management systems (CMS), email marketing software, and social media management tools.
  • Experience with basic photo/video editing and media organization.
  • A strong eye for modern graphic design and visual layout, understanding that “less is more.”
  • Ability to write with a warm, professional, and inviting tone that reflects the parish mission.
  • High level of self-direction, organizational skills, and the ability to meet strict weekly production deadlines consistently.

Nuts & Bolts

  • Classification: Full-Time (Hourly)
  • Reports To: Director of Mission
  • Collaboration: Works closely with the Director of Operations, Director of Mission, Office Manager, and Pastor.
