The City of Bella Vista has a current opening for a Permit Technician. The individual in this role will be responsible for processing building permits, scheduling inspections, responding to inquiries via phone and email as well as in person. Other responsibilities include a wide variety of tasks in support of the department. This position interacts with the public on a regular basis and requires demonstrated, excellent customer service skills and a friendly attitude.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Enters permit application information into the City’s permit tracking system, routes to appropriate department personnel, processes approved applications for permit issuance, closes out completed permits, and prepares Certificates of Occupancy for distribution.
- Reviews and processes email applications and responds to email inquiries in timely manner.
- Collects and issues receipts for various funds paid to the city and enters receipt information into accounting system
- Reviews site plans and building plans prior to full review by official Plans Reviewer.
- Screens calls and visitors and refers to appropriate Department as needed.
- Prepares written memos, letters, and other material from rough draft through final approved copy as directed.
- Coordinates plot plan approvals with outside agencies for water meter and sewer locations.
- Prepares paperwork necessary in order to issue Certificates of Occupancy for properties.
- Stays informed regarding city building codes.
- Keeps accurate records and documents related to the Building Division work.
- Schedules property inspections for appropriate Department personnel as needed.
- Assists Chief Building Official as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education, Skills:
- Completion of a high school education; Associates degree or higher a plus.
- 5+ years of general office experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new computer systems.
- Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgements.
- Experience writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to read and understand city codes, maps, legal descriptions, technical drawings.
- Ability to interact with and communicate with public, builders, and contractors in a friendly and helpful manner.
Preferred:
- Prior experience working for a municipality.
- Prior experience processing permits.
- Working Knowledge of iWorQ software.
Ability to pass City required background check.
