Job Summary:

Provides comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare to infants, children, and adolescents. Performs physical examinations, assesses and diagnoses acute and chronic conditions, develops and manages treatment plans, prescribes medications, orders and interprets diagnostic testing, and provides patient and family education. Promotes wellness through immunizations, developmental screenings, health counseling, and preventive care while collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. This position may require after-hours call.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Provides oversight and guidance to LVNs and CMAs

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provides comprehensive primary and preventive care to infants, children, and adolescents to include comprehensive physical examinations and recording of detailed medical histories. Develops, implements, and monitors individualized treatment plans. 
• Administers and manages immunizations and other pediatric preventive services.
• Monitors growth, development, nutrition, and overall health.
• Conducts patient histories, physical examinations, developmental assessments, and routine wellness visits.
• Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic pediatric illnesses and conditions.
• Performs common pediatric procedures within scope of practice and in alignment with RHC approved procedures.
• Orders, performs, and interprets laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and screenings.
• Prescribes medications and treatments and monitor patient response.
• Identifies urgent and emergent conditions and initiates appropriate treatment or referral and follow-up care with specialists and other healthcare providers.
• Prescribes medications and treatments in accordance with applicable laws and clinical guidelines.
• Provides education and guidance to patients and parents/caregivers regarding health, nutrition, medications, treatment plans, and disease prevention.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and complete medical records and clinical documentation.
• Collaborates with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, compliance, and infection-control initiatives.
• Follows established clinical protocols, evidence-based practices, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization.

Job-related Skills and Abilities: 

• Must use and operate: Blood Pressure cuffs, Stethoscope, Syringes, Scales, Glucose Monitors, AED, and DME.
• Knowledge of miscellaneous medical equipment.
• Must be committed to quality and patient safety at all times.
• Excellent command/highly proficient in spoken and written English; bilingual in Spanish, preferred; translate complex medical terms into simple, easy-to-follow advice for families.
• Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, electronic medical record documentation, and email.

Education and Experience:

• Master of Science in Nursing required.
• Advanced Practice Nurse Texas License required.
• Prescriptive authority and applicable state and federal credentials, including DEA registration when required.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS/ENPC Certification required within 3 months. – AHA only
• Maintains required continuing education and professional certifications.

Physical and Mental Requirements: 

•  Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday
• Ability to safely assist with positioning, transferring, and examining pediatric patients of varying ages and sizes.
•  Occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and lifting
•  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
• Use of hands and fingers for a wide range of tasks, including grasping, writing, typing, and operating small medical equipment; Fine motor control: Sufficient dexterity for tasks such as picking up small objects and manipulating syringes
• Adequate vision and hearing for communication and operational oversight
• Ability to navigate all areas of the facility
• Stress Level: Moderate to High

OSHA Classification: 

Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

• All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes of them are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures, such as gloves, masks, goggles, and gown are required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
