Under the supervision of staff physicians, the Physician Assistant will provide primary health care services as a member of a health care team comprised of physicians, mid-level practitioners and nursing personnel. Primary responsibilities relate to management of health care for certain patients and families as assigned.

POSITION SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT
· 7P – 7A shift
· Inpatient Pulmonary Critical Care
· 7 nights on / 14 nights off rotating schedule
· The schedule consists of seven consecutive overnight shifts, followed by 14 consecutive days off
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
- Performance of health assessments, including a thorough history and physical examination, ordering or performing certain diagnostic tests, evaluation of the psychosocial and family aspects of the situation sufficient to make a general health assessment, and diagnose the nature of common acute and chronic conditions.
- Promotes and maintains patient health, including planning of periodic health assessments and screening for early case findings, assessment and guidance about health hazards, good health habits, family planning, mental and emotional problems and continued maintenance of contact and rapport with the patient.
- Manages common acute and chronic illness, including minor trauma, episodic problems, common chronic disorders, as well as counseling and education about such problems, and performance of minor surgical procedures.
- Refers complex and high-priority cases to the physicians within the practice or outside the practice regarding complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems, re-evaluation of chronic conditions, etc.
- Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment. Provides patient education.
- Triages calls from nursing staff regarding patient issues.
- Completes all documentation requirements into the EMR system.
- Provides educational assistance to clinical support staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Indiana license to practice the duties of a Physician Assistant
- Certification in BLS and ACLS
- Acute Care Experience or Training a Plus
- Ability to relate well with patients and other health care personnel
- Ability to work as a team member
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduated from a certified Physician Assistant or related program, which entails training as well as practice in the above-mentioned duties.
- Prefer previous experience providing medical care within a clinical environment.
