Job Summary

National Ability Center, a rapidly growing national nonprofit, seeks passionate instructors to teach ski/snowboard lessons for people with disabilities. Our Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Instructors provide instruction to individuals, families and groups in a fun and effective learning environment. A primary function of this and every other job at the National Ability Center is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.


Job Information

Position Type: Volunteer - Full-Time Seasonal or Part-Time Seasonal

Schedule: Variable, Weekend, night and holiday work required

Location: Park City Mountain Resort and other resort locations

Supervisor: Ski and Snowboard Program Manager


Major Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Create a basic lesson plan matched to each student’s ability and goals
  • Communicate instructions to students during the lesson, including but not limited to directives, technique and feedback
  • Complete progress notes following each lesson as explained during training and outlined in the Ski and Snowboard Employee Manual
  • Effectively engage volunteers in lessons and encourage others to volunteer with the National Ability Center
  • Provide family and/or group instruction to students with varying levels of skills utilizing a wide array of techniques and strategies
  • Implement and supervise safety/risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers and staff
  • Create a nurturing, positive and professional environment while promoting program policies and procedures amongst staff, volunteers and community
  • Be a positive representative and promoter of National Ability Center programs, events, and activities in our community
  • Provide referrals of resources including in-kind and monetary donations
  • Commit to continuing education in your field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs sustain continual responsiveness and improvement
  • Communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents, volunteers, management and co-workers
  • Be fully present and engaged while providing lessons or doing other assigned tasks
  • Attend and engage in required staff meetings and trainings
  • Adhere to National Ability Center core values
  • Other duties as specified



Requirements
  • Independent, intermediate to advanced skiing/riding skills
  • Passion for working with people with disabilities
  • Able to attend all required training
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations
  • Pass required safety checks
  • Excellent communication skills: Proficient at speaking, reading and writing English
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to consistently lift, carry, and load equipment that weighs 50 plus pounds
