Job Functions:
The Seasonal IT Tent Technician ensures proper operation of computer, audio, and video equipment at Metropolitan Ministries’ holiday tent and campus locations, enabling end users and clients to perform their tasks effectively. Responsibilities include installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading PC hardware, software, sound systems, and video equipment to ensure optimal performance. This role involves receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user support requests reported via phone, email, or in person, and requires regular travel between Metro Min’s Tampa campus and the St. Petersburg tent location, as well as other campus and tent sites as needed. This is an entry-level opportunity, with the chance to build more advanced technical skills for a motivated self-starter.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Serve as the first point of contact for customers seeking technical assistance in person, over the phone, or via email.
- Perform troubleshooting using diagnostic techniques and relevant questioning.
- Walk the customer through the problem-solving process.
- Determine the best solution based on the issue and details provided by customers.
- Provide accurate information on IT products or services.
- Escalate unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.
- Record events, problems, and resolutions in support logs.
- Follow up and update customer status and information.
- Relay customer feedback or suggestions to the appropriate internal team.
- Identify and suggest possible improvements to support procedures.
- Meet personal goals and actively contribute to team and organizational targets; attend required staff meetings and trainings; complete other duties as assigned.
- Work hours consistent with tent and campus operations, including early mornings to late afternoons; weekend work at the holiday tent locations is required.
Education and Experience:
Entry-level position; prior help desk or technical support experience is a plus but not required. Willingness to learn service desk ticketing systems and more advanced IT skills. A+ and/or Network+ certification is a plus.
Skills Requirements:
Interest in a help desk, technical support, or customer service role; prior experience is a plus. Tech-savvy with working knowledge of computer hardware, video projectors, and TVs. Familiarity with soundboards, DMX cabling, and speakers is a plus. Solid understanding of Windows systems, iPads, mobile devices, and other tech products. Proficiency with Microsoft tools such as Teams, Excel, and Word. Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English. Customer-oriented and calm under pressure.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to tolerate outdoor temperatures consistent with Florida’s climate. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and stretch for prolonged periods. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more. Must be able to work in and operate a scissor lift at heights up to 40 feet. Must provide in-person, hands-on technical support at the deskside level and work in outdoor environments.
Other:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Must pass required pre-employment background screening. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Must adhere to the policies and procedures of the ministry
This is a full-time, seasonal position, effective immediately through January 1, 2027. Must be available to work flexible schedules during the holiday season (October–December) and special events.
Requires regular travel between Metro Min’s campus and tent locations, with the St. Petersburg tent and Tampa campus as primary work locations. Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel between campus and tent sites as needed. Weekend work at the holiday tent locations is required; must be available for regular hours with open availability and flexibility as needed; some local travel may be required.
