As a 5-Axis Milling Estimator, you play a critical role in ensuring complex machined parts are manufacturable, accurately scoped, and aligned with production capabilities before they reach the shop floor. You perform in-depth Design for Manufacturability reviews, evaluate machining strategy using Fusion 360 CAM, and communicate clearly with customers regarding required adjustments or optimization opportunities. This role bridges customer intent and production execution, helping maintain quality, efficiency, and consistency across our CNC machining operations.

What you’ll do
- Review incoming CNC machining orders to evaluate manufacturability, feasibility, and production alignment
- Perform detailed DFM checks for complex multi-axis machined parts
- Modify or optimize customer files using Fusion 360 CAM as needed to meet production standards
- Evaluate machining strategy, toolpaths, workholding approach, and risk areas prior to release
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding manufacturability concerns and recommended adjustments
- Partner with Support, Programming, and Production teams to ensure customer objectives and operational goals are aligned
- Support continuous improvement of DFM workflows, documentation standards, and estimating processes
- Maintain accuracy and consistency in technical reviews while meeting volume and turnaround expectations
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of direct experience programming 5-axis CNC mills using Fusion 360 CAM
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Strong understanding of machining strategies, toolpath optimization, feeds and speeds, and workholding methods
- Ability to evaluate part geometry and identify manufacturability risks
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers
- Experience working cross-functionally with programming and production teams
- Strong computer proficiency and comfort working within digital production systems
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple reviews in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of CNC milling experience in a production environment
- Experience estimating machining time or quoting complex parts
- Familiarity with high-mix, low-volume production workflows
- Exposure to automation or workflow optimization within CAM systems
- Prior experience in a customer-facing technical role
