To ensure prompt, friendly and courteous customer service. To work as a Produce team member and to assist the Produce Manager in running the department and to meet goals for sales, margin, turns, labor and customer service. Specific Responsibilities of Assistant Produce Manager
CUSTOMER SERVICE
A. Demonstrates a “customer first” approach by upholding, coaching & modeling PFC Customer Service vision.
B. Anticipate customer needs and offer assistance as appropriate.
C. Demonstrates deep knowledge about products, membership and management policies. Very knowledgeable about PFC products, product locations, & membership policies.
D. Ensures Produce staff complies with excellent customer service standards by providing appropriate leadership, technical & customer relations training.
E. Resolve complaints, and report customer suggestions & comments to Produce Manager.
TEAMWORK
A. Demonstrates teamwork by working in a cooperative friendly and respectful manner with all co-workers.
B. Demonstrates motivation as evidenced by a positive attitude and reinforcing positive behaviors of co-workers.
C. Demonstrates reliability by being consistently at work and on time for shifts.
D. Assists other departments as possible without sacrificing Produce Department productivity.
WORK STANDARDS
A. Display fruits and vegetables to give impression of abundance and quality, while maintaining proper storage conditions.
B. Replenish and rotate displays, following stocking priorities set by Produce Manager.
C. Cull displays several times daily, recording and disposing of low-quality produce following established procedures.
D. Demonstrates high work standards through promptness, thoroughness, and accuracy.
E. Assists with deliveries as needed; unloading, checking to verify piece count, notifying purchaser of discrepancies or problems.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
A. Demonstrates safety and security by complying with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adhering to safe work practices.
B. Remove trash promptly; sweep and mop retail floors frequently, and wipe down shelves, counters, bins and coolers.
C. Use equipment and materials properly. Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures.Report equipment problems or unsafe conditions promptly.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY
A. Place major daily produce orders in absence of Produce Manager.
B. Place orders for seeds and specific orders as delegated.
C. Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable.
D. Review invoices for accuracy.
E. Calculate prices as needed, following established pricing guidelines. Participate in periodic price comparisons with competitors.
PLANNING/ORGANIZING
A. Set work priorities for department staff in the absence of Produce Manager.
A. Fill holes in staff schedule in absence of Produce Manager.
B. Provide feedback to department staff on performance, standards, etc.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT
A. Ensure inter-departmental cooperation without sacrificing Produce department productivity.
B. Participates in quarterly store inventories.
C. Perform other tasks assigned by Produce Manager, Grocery Division Manager and
General Manager.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and general procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
