GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the E-Coat Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, professional, and customer-focused operation of the E-Coat manufacturing area. The Supervisor directs daily activities through the SQDPE management process - Safety, Quality, Delivery, People, and Equipment - while developing Team Leaders and associates, maintaining professional standards, and meeting customer requirements.
This position requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong floor leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to balance people, process, equipment, and customer needs. The Supervisor uses Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) to identify abnormalities, establish priorities, implement countermeasures, verify effectiveness, and sustain improvements.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
· Previous manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience required; 2-6 years preferred.
· E-Coat, paint/coatings, automotive manufacturing, finishing, or other process-manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
· Experience leading Team Leaders and hourly manufacturing associates preferred.

· Ability to work effectively with Quality, Maintenance, Production Control, Shipping/Receiving, HR, and other departments.
· Flexible work schedule and overtime may be required based on company and customer needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment and requires frequent floor presence, prolonged standing and walking, and work around moving equipment, forklift traffic, production machinery, and areas that may be hot, humid, or noisy. Appropriate PPE is required in designated areas. Specific lifting and physical requirements should be confirmed by BTD Human Resources for the E-Coat area.
SQDPE RESPONSIBILITIES
S - SAFETY
· Ensure associates understand and follow safety rules, required PPE, safe work practices, and applicable environmental requirements.
· Maintain active floor awareness and immediately address unsafe behaviors, conditions, near misses, and incidents.
· Support incident investigation and corrective action and ensure identified safety actions are followed through to completion.
· Has the authority and responsibility to stop production when an immediate safety concern exists.
Q - QUALITY
· Create a culture in which quality is everyone's responsibility and customer requirements are understood at every operation.
· Ensure associates follow Standard Work Instructions (SWIs), inspection requirements, quality alerts, control requirements, traceability, and documented processes.
· Verify Team Leaders are actively teaching quality expectations and associates understand what they are inspecting and why.
· Respond to quality abnormalities, contain suspect product, involve Quality as required, identify root causes, and use PDCA to prevent recurrence.
· Has the authority and responsibility to stop production when a quality concern could affect the customer.
D - DELIVERY
· Understand daily customer and production requirements and translate them into clear priorities and expectations for the shift.
· Monitor manpower, production rates, takt, schedule attainment, material flow, downtime, and work-in-process throughout the shift.
· Identify gaps early, assign ownership, and develop recovery plans rather than waiting until the end of the shift.
· Coordinate with Production Control, Shipping/Receiving, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to meet customer requirements for correct parts, correct quantity, and on-time delivery.
· Participate in shift-change meetings and provide clear handoff of production status, quality concerns, downtime, staffing issues, customer priorities, and unfinished actions.
P - PEOPLE
· Build and maintain a respectful, productive, and professional work environment through strong interpersonal skills and consistent leadership.
· Direct, coach, train, and develop Team Leaders and associates. Ensure training is completed and competency is demonstrated.
· Assign manpower according to production needs and make efficient use of available labor.
· Address attendance, conduct, communication, productivity, quality, safety, and other performance concerns promptly and professionally.
· Conduct coaching, investigations, corrective action, performance evaluations, and recommendations regarding employee status as required by company policy.
· Recognize good performance, encourage involvement, and reinforce teamwork across departments and shifts.
E - EQUIPMENT
· Maintain awareness of the condition and performance of equipment supporting the E-Coat process and production flow.
· Ensure equipment abnormalities, downtime, and recurring issues are identified, communicated, and escalated promptly.
· Partner with Maintenance and technical resources to restore production, understand recurring failures, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
· Ensure equipment-related actions have clear ownership and are followed through to resolution.
· Support preventive maintenance, 5S, continuous improvement, and changes that improve safety, quality, uptime, throughput, or labor utilization.
PDCA - HOW WE LEAD
· PLAN - Understand the requirement, identify the gap, establish priorities, assign resources and ownership, and communicate the plan.
· DO - Execute the plan. Provide direction, remove obstacles, and ensure Team Leaders and associates understand their responsibilities.
· CHECK - Go to the floor and verify. Review results, observe the process, talk with associates, and determine whether the action produced the expected result.
· ACT - Standardize what worked. If the action did not work, adjust the countermeasure and repeat the PDCA cycle. Known problems are not left unresolved without ownership and follow-up.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Review production, quality, maintenance, staffing, and operational information to identify nonconformities, production problems, and improvement opportunities.
· Coordinate and recommend changes to operating methods, staffing, equipment, layout, or procedures to improve safety, quality, delivery, people development, and equipment performance.
· Support documented processes, procedures, training, 5S, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and applicable quality-system requirements.
· Make timely daily decisions regarding workforce utilization, overtime, weekend scheduling, and production priorities within assigned authority.
· Perform other duties as assigned based on business and customer needs.
