The product handler role is responsible for maintaining and relocating accurate counts of product into finished inventory while safely and efficiently operating a forklift. Maintaining a clean work area while supplying all lines the necessary packaging to operate.
The Product Handler works under the Extrusion Foreman and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately will result in inaccurate inventory and time lost due to wrong packaging of product. Product not inspected before delivering to staging area may result in rejected material which will affect timeliness of delivering to customers. When performing any routine inspection decisions can be made but if unsure must be cleared through supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Safe and Efficient operation of Forklift in compliance with company's forklift safety program Deliver and remove packaging supplies to all lines as necessary to keep up with production runs and change overs
- Scan product and move into finished goods inventory (stretch wrap when necessary)
- Keep assigned areas clean throughout the shift. Remove and discard unused packaging supplies at lines and in packaging storage areas.
- Minimize waste by reclaiming material, retuning undamaged packaging for reuse and proper handling of finished goods.
- Empty dumpster as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness of Break room, Bathrooms, Locker room and outside picnic area.
- Maintain Skid yard organization and cleanliness
- Assist with repackaging damaged product. Help with the process of reclaiming material when instructed to.
- Work with fellow employees to achieve a fluid process of moving finished goods and supplying materials in a timely matter to the line to prevent disruption of the process
- Execute all duties accurately and in a timely matter to meet requirements of Production. Ensure the final product going to staging area is in condition to be shipped to customer.

Task
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions for packaging needs per line.
- Bring all necessary equipment to lines for preparation of change overs.
- Record the coil count with scanning tool when locating product into finished goods staging area.
- Serve as production's final quality check on packaging securement.
- Assist with banding and labeling of finished pallets.
- Stretch wrap final product where applicable.
- Deliver packaging supplies to all 10 lines.
- Discarding or returning excess packaging and/or scrap cardboard in the packaging storage area and at production lines.
- Keep assigned areas clean throughout shift which includes:
- Break room
- Bathrooms
- Locker room
- Utility sink area
- Outside picnic area
- Snow removal
- Maintain skid yard organization and cleanliness (scrap skids, loose straps and trash).
- Empty Dumpsters every shift or as needed.
- Keep front aisles, stretch wrap areas clean and walkways unobstructed.
- Assist with repackaging of damaged products. Help with process of reclaiming material
- when instructed too.
- Maintain 5-S checklists throughout shift that pertains to your upkeeping of areas.
- Perform additional duties that are assigned when time allows.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in safely operating a forklift in a manufacturing environment, including stacking and unstacking. High school diploma or equivalent.
