Position Summary


Roberts Wesleyan University is seeking a Director of Digital Experience to provide strategic and technical leadership for the University’s primary digital platforms, including Roberts.edu, the RWU intranet, and affiliated web properties.

Working in close partnership with the Vice President of Marketing, the Director will help shape and execute the University’s digital experience strategy, translating Marketing and institutional priorities into effective, accessible, measurable, and sustainable digital experiences. The position combines strategic planning with hands-on responsibility for website management, user experience, search visibility, analytics, digital accessibility, and platform integrations.

The Director will report to the Vice President of Marketing while maintaining a close strategic and operational partnership with Information Technology Services. The role will also serve as a key cross-functional participant in major digital-platform implementations and transitions that affect the website, intranet, enrollment experience, authentication, and other constituent-facing services.


Key Responsibilities


Digital Strategy & Platform Leadership

  • Partner with the Vice President of Marketing to help shape and execute digital strategy, priorities, and long-term platform planning.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for Roberts.edu, the RWU intranet, affiliated microsites, and future University digital platforms.
  • Develop and maintain a digital roadmap that translates Marketing and institutional priorities into actionable improvements.
  • Evaluate and improve site architecture, navigation, information design, and user experience.
  • Ensure University digital platforms support enrollment, communication, advancement, academic, and community-engagement goals.
  • Establish and maintain standards for accessibility, metadata, content quality, page structure, and overall digital experience.

Website, CMS & Digital Platform Management

  • Serve as the primary administrator and technical owner of the University’s content management system, currently Umbraco.
  • Manage CMS configuration, templates, publishing workflows, permissions, upgrades, testing, and enhancements.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving publishing, rendering, indexing, forms, integrations, and site performance.
  • Oversee the structure, usability, and ongoing evolution of the RWU intranet.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for platform configuration, integrations, technical processes, and support procedures.
  • Partner with Information Technology Services and external vendors on hosting, infrastructure, security, authentication, integrations, and technical implementation.

User Experience, Search & Analytics

  • Improve digital experiences for prospective students and families across key journeys, including inquiry, application, visit scheduling, program exploration, financial aid, and enrollment.
  • Partner with Marketing and Admissions to reduce friction and improve performance across high-priority pages, forms, and conversion pathways.
  • Lead technical and on-page search engine optimization, including metadata, structured data, internal linking, page performance, and content optimization.
  • Support efforts to improve Roberts’ visibility and accurate representation in AI-powered search and generative answer platforms.
  • Oversee web analytics platforms, including Google Analytics and Google Search Console, and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting related to traffic, engagement, user behavior, conversions, and enrollment-relevant outcomes.
  • Conduct testing and iterative improvements where appropriate.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Digital Transformation

  • Maintain a close working partnership with Information Technology Services to ensure digital platforms are secure, integrated, sustainable, and aligned with University technology standards.
  • Serve as a key participant in major University platform implementations, migrations, and integrations that affect the website, intranet, enrollment experience, authentication, and other constituent-facing services.
  • Represent user experience, content, accessibility, branding, navigation, and communication needs in cross-functional technology projects.
  • Work collaboratively with Admissions, Advancement, Athletics, Academic Affairs, Human Resources, Student Life, and other departments to identify digital needs and develop sustainable solutions.
  • Serve as a bridge between Marketing, Information Technology Services, University departments, and external vendors.
  • Support planning, testing, content migration, change management, and adoption for new digital platforms and services.
  • Help identify opportunities to simplify or consolidate digital tools as new systems are introduced.

Vendor & Project Management

  • Manage relationships with external web development, hosting, analytics, and digital service providers.
  • Develop project scopes, requirements, timelines, testing plans, and implementation schedules.
  • Coordinate vendor projects and monitor deliverables, performance, costs, and service levels.
  • Evaluate new digital tools, platforms, and services and provide recommendations to Marketing and IT leadership.
  • Maintain strong internal knowledge of University platforms to reduce unnecessary reliance on outside vendors.
Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in web development, information technology, digital marketing, communications, user experience, or a related field; equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in web strategy, website management, digital experience, web development, digital marketing, or a related area.
  • Hands-on experience administering and supporting a modern content management system, including Umbraco.
  • Strong understanding of website architecture, responsive design, usability, content structure, and web standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of search engine optimization, including technical SEO, metadata, and structured data.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI-search and generative-engine optimization practices.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, or comparable analytics platforms.
  • Experience working with digital integrations, APIs, authentication, CRM platforms, or connected enterprise systems.
  • Experience supporting digital-platform implementations, migrations, or system transitions.
  • Strong project-management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and move projects from planning through 0implementation.
  • Alignment with and support for the mission and Christian identity of Roberts Wesleyan University.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or another complex, multi-stakeholder organization.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET/.NET, SQL, APIs, or related web technologies.
  • Experience integrating websites with CRM, ERP, identity, or other enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with higher education enrollment, portal, CRM, or student systems.
  • Experience with Schema.org structured data.
  • Experience with WCAG accessibility standards and remediation.
  • Experience with A/B testing, conversion optimization, heatmapping, or user testing.
  • Experience supporting enrollment marketing or digital recruitment.
  • Experience administering an intranet or internal digital communication platform.
  • Experience managing external development or hosting vendors.
Salary Description
$90,000.00/annually
