Position Summary

Resicum International, LLC. is seeking an experienced 3D Printing & CAD Design Specialist to support specialized prototyping, advanced manufacturing, and product development requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with 3D printing, CAD design, and rapid prototyping, with the ability to transform concepts, sketches, measurements, existing components, or technical requirements into accurate and functional 3D models and physical prototypes.

This position will support the development of specialized, precision components and functional prototypes, including components with complex geometries, tight dimensional requirements, lightweight designs, and specialized performance requirements.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working through the complete design and additive manufacturing process—from initial concept and CAD development through printing, evaluation, modification, and final prototype production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and develop detailed 3D CAD models for specialized components, prototypes, fixtures, tooling, and other applications.
  • Convert concepts, sketches, measurements, photographs, existing components, and technical requirements into functional 3D designs.
  • Prepare CAD models and manufacturing files for additive manufacturing.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot professional-grade 3D printing equipment.
  • Select appropriate printing technologies, materials, and print parameters based on project requirements.
  • Produce functional prototypes and precision components requiring accurate dimensions, fit, and repeatability.
  • Develop components featuring complex geometries, internal features, lightweight structures, and other specialized design characteristics.
  • Optimize designs to improve strength, weight, fit, functionality, printability, and overall performance.
  • Conduct iterative prototyping and design development based on testing and evaluation.
  • Troubleshoot print failures, dimensional issues, material problems, and other manufacturing challenges.
  • Evaluate completed components for dimensional accuracy, fit, finish, and functionality.
  • Perform basic dimensional inspection and verification using appropriate measurement tools.
  • Maintain organized CAD files, print files, design revisions, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technical personnel, program managers, and other project team members.
  • Research and evaluate new additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Perform other related design, prototyping, and advanced manufacturing duties as assigned.
Requirements

 

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience with 3D printing / additive manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and modify 3D CAD models.
  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting 3D printers.
  • Ability to prepare CAD files for additive manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of additive manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, and print parameters.
  • Ability to design functional components rather than solely producing basic or decorative prints.
  • Ability to work from concepts, sketches, drawings, measurements, photographs, or existing components.
  • Understanding of how CAD design decisions affect printability, strength, weight, fit, and functionality.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, repeatable components.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple design and prototyping requirements.

CAD Design Requirements

Experience with one or more of the following CAD platforms is highly desirable:

  • SolidWorks
  • Fusion 360
  • AutoCAD
  • Siemens NX
  • CATIA
  • Onshape
  • Other comparable professional 3D CAD software

Candidates should be capable of:

  • Creating detailed 3D models.
  • Designing mechanical components.
  • Creating assemblies.
  • Modifying existing designs.
  • Working from physical measurements.
  • Developing complex geometries.
  • Designing specifically for additive manufacturing.
  • Creating lightweight or optimized structures.
  • Incorporating dimensional requirements and tolerances.

3D Printing / Additive Manufacturing Requirements

Hands-on experience with professional or advanced 3D printing systems is highly desirable.

Precision Prototyping & Specialized Components

Experience developing functional, precision-oriented prototypes and components is highly desirable.

Candidates should be comfortable working with components that may require:

Reverse Engineering & Design Development

Experience working from existing physical components is highly desirable.

  • Improve existing designs.
  • Create prototypes based on physical references.
  • Iterate designs based on fit and function.
  • Maintain accurate design revisions.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to use practical measurements and observations to develop an accurate digital model.

Education & Experience

A technical degree, CAD certification, additive manufacturing certification, or formal technical training is preferred but may be substituted with relevant professional experience.

Preferred Experience:
3+ years of relevant professional experience in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, CAD design, rapid prototyping, product design, or a related technical field.

Candidates with strong hands-on experience and demonstrated proficiency may be considered based on their practical capabilities and previous work.

Security / Background Requirements

Depending on the specific assignment and contract requirements, the selected candidate may be required to:

  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Meet U.S. citizenship or other contract-specific eligibility requirements.
  • Comply with applicable government contracting, export-control, safety, and technical requirements.

Specific requirements will be determined by the applicable program and contract.
